It was a good dawn for the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Lafia Chapter as the Chapter undertook an industrial visit to the area office of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) located at Markurdi road, Lafia.

Members of the chapter were well-received by Mr. Elisha Ebuga, the Head of Technical Operations in his office. Mr Ebuga in his address took ample time to explain the operations and distribution network of the company within in coverage areas. He received questions from members of the Society afterwards.

Mr Ebuga hinted on the relentless efforts the company is making to improve its services to consumers, and highlighted the following as the challenges the company is facing in its operations:
Limited Power supply from TCN
Obsolete equipment
Vandalism of power installations
Energy theft through prepaid meter bypasses and illegal connections.

In closing, he admonished members of the NSE to help AEDC to safeguard power infrastructures against vandals and to pay their electricity bills promptly.

The branch chairman NSE LAFIA, Engr. Inarigu in response assured Mr Ebuga of NSE’s commitment to partner with the company where necessary. He encouraged that staff of the company who are engineers should identify with NSE and join the branch.

It was obvious that the visit was timely as seen from the expression of members of the Society. Members were better enlightened about the power situation in Lafia and environs where AEDC operates. In attendance were the Chairman, NSE Lafia branch, Engr. Aliyu Inarigwu, Engr. Zakari Ayitogo, FNSE, Engr. Simon Ibi, FNSE and many officials and members of the chapter.
