Police arrest three suspected armed robbers in Calabar [] - asknig.com


The Cross River State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers in Calabar.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Irene Ugbo, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday said operational weapons including local short guns were recovered.

The PPRO said the arrest followed a distress call received on 2nd September 2024, from a motorist traveling from Ikom to Calabar, reporting that they were robbed of their valuables worth four hundred and fifty-five thousand (455,000) Naira by a group of armed robbers.

The suspects were said to have blocked the federal highway along the small Iwuru village in Akamkpa Local Government Area.

Upon receiving the report, a team of officers from the Command’s Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad (ACKS) stationed at Uyanga swiftly mobilized and responded to the distress call.

SP Irene said through effective intelligence gathering, the squad traced the suspects to their hideout, leading to the arrest of three male robbers who are Sunday Sunday Udo, 27 years old; Godday Friday Essien, 22 years old and Kufre Edet Umoren, 33 years old.

One locally made short gun, three machetes, and one short iron pipe were other items recovered during the raid.

The suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation. The Command added.

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, commended the swift response of the officers and urged citizens to remain vigilant and conscious of illegal activities in their surroundings.

He advised the public to be proactive and report any suspicious behavior or criminal activity to the authorities.

CP Grimah reassured residents of the state of their safety, promising continuous prompt response to emergencies. He also lauded the collaboration between the Command and the public in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in the State.

She released new photos on her birthday but eagle-eyed netizens accused her of using photos that are not hers and trying to pass them off as hers.
The photos purportedly belong to an Iraqi influencer and the Nigerian actress just photoshopped her head onto the Influencer’s body.
The Yoruba movie actress deleted the photos after the public call-out.

'Miracle' in US church as Virgin Mary statue is filmed ‘blinking’ (video) [] - asknig.com


Stunned worshippers got more than they bargained for when a Virgin Mary statue was apparently caught “blinking” at them.

Churchgoers in Ohio, in the US, captured the baffling moment on camera.

They believed the National Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima looked upon them and gave a cheeky wink while making its way across the region as part of a tour. Witnesses swear it shut and opened its eyes while on display at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist.



This statue of Our Lady was blessed by Pope Paul VI at Fatima in May 1967, and given to the UK by the Bishop of Fatima in 1968.

Photos snapped by those present seem to depict a blinking eye on the statue.



Katie Moran shared the image on social media.

She told WJW: “I took it and thought, ‘that’s really nice’. I took one more to be sure and when I looked at it, the eyes were closed I [went], ‘wow!'”

And she wasn’t alone, with others describing witnessing a similar sight.

Connie Liptak said: “I knew it was a miracle because I’d been looking at her all morning. They’re really closed. I mean, you can really see her lashes are down.”

The statue is also believed to have a mystical healing power, with some citing “miracles” in its presence.

Ms Moran, who oversees the statue, said there had even been reports of visitors being cured of diseases in her presence, from cancer to infertility problems.

She said: “For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don’t, no proof is possible. It’s faith and I believe.”

Many have expressed doubts about the blinking statue after it was shared online.
