One major mistake beginners make during construction is failing to properly wet and compact laterite filling.
Laterite filling is not just about dumping soil into a building. It must be thoroughly watered and compacted in layers to achieve the required density and stability.
When this step is neglected, the consequences can be costly:
β Sunken or cracked floors
β Differential settlement
β Damaged floor finishes
β Structural distress on walls and partitions
Watering helps the laterite particles settle properly, while compaction removes air voids and increases strength.
In construction, the steps you don't see are often the ones that determine how long the building lasts.
Don't rush the filling stage. Get it right the first time.
