If you are not having a personal experience with God, you will not grow stronger or be built up spiritually. Overcoming one fear means that particular fear will not return. God is more interested in taking you through a journey of transformation than simply granting instant deliverance. When you understand this and follow Him, you will become better.
You can only learn to conquer fear through experience.
Fear Weakens the Heart
Luke 21:26 says, "Men’s hearts failing them for fear." This means that fear has the power to drain and weaken the heart. Where fear is present, your heart will struggle to sustain you. If your spirit is meant to uphold you, fear acts as a thief, robbing you of that sustenance.
Fear hinders the proper functioning of the heart and mind. The only way to defeat fear is to face it. If you refuse to learn from your experiences, you will continue to fail in the same areas. Growth comes from learning to overcome fear.
Fear is Spiritual Before It is Physical
The key to overcoming fear is the presence of the Holy Spirit. Fear is not just an emotion—it can also be a spirit. When fear manifests as a spirit, it opens the door for other negative spiritual influences to enter. This is why fear is first a spiritual issue before it becomes a physical one.
God is not the source of fear. Anytime you feel afraid, know that it is coming from a source outside of God.
Fear is Learned—And It Can Be Unlearned
Fear is often given and received. We are not born with fear; we learn it. Interestingly, knowledge can both increase and eliminate fear. The wrong knowledge aggravates fear, but the right knowledge dispels it.
1 John 4:18 tells us that "Perfect love casts out fear." According to Scripture, the antidote to fear is love. Love brings security, while fear stems from a lack of trust in God's love. One of the key attributes of love is protection. Where true love exists, fear cannot dominate.
Overcome Fear by Growing in God’s Love
If you find fear rising in any area of your life, immerse yourself in studying and meditating on God’s love. Fear limits you, but love empowers you. To break free from every limitation in your life, you must first conquer fear.
