True Happiness: What It Really Means
True happiness isn’t what the world tells you it is. Mainstream media, social media, and even society keep selling us a polished but flawed definition. We’re told happiness comes from applause, from wealth, from achievements, or from living up to a picture-perfect standard. But if you peel back the layers, the story looks very different.
In this episode of Just My POV, we slowed down to ask the hard questions: What does happiness really mean? Is it applause? Is it money? Or is it something only you can define for yourself? One truth became clear; happiness and joy are not the same. Joy is rooted, steady, unshaken by circumstances. Happiness, however, is more fluid, shaped by how each of us sees fulfillment in our own lives.
We also touched on the distractions of chasing validation. “God never makes a mistake,” we reminded ourselves, yet it’s easy to get carried away by what the world says is important. When you chase society’s applause, you risk missing the peace already within reach. Even Nigerian skitmakers, often dismissed as just entertainers, show how intellectual creativity can be when it’s tied to purpose. Applause is loud, but without meaning, it rings hollow.
And then came the money talk. What would ₦1B do to your happiness? The truth is, money doesn’t create meaning; it amplifies it. What you do with money is what gives it value. Without purpose, it’s just numbers. This raised the bigger question: Can you truly be happy without money? The answers revealed generational differences. While Gen Zs often chase speed, and millennials pave the way with more patience, both groups are learning the same lesson; happiness is less about possessions and more about perspective.
At the end of the day, we discovered that happiness is deeply personal. It’s not a one-size-fits-all definition handed down by society. It’s about how you choose to see what you have, and how you find fulfillment in the journey.
So, what do you think? Is happiness about what you have, or about how you choose to see what you have? Drop your thoughts below 👇
