Letters to God Words from my heart, heard by God. Meant to transform minds

Dear Father,

I listened to Apostle Iren's message where he responded to the question, "Would people who have never heard of You be condemned to hell?" The Scripture says, "For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves." The idea is that there is an instinctive moral law, that at a certain age, a person is no longer without the knowledge of good and evil, and judgment will be based on the choices they made in relation to the level of knowledge made available to them.

This has me wondering: if the level of exposure to knowledge and its application can be a basis for judgment, what about situations where we stumble and fall despite the unlimited body of knowledge made available to us, simply because we have refused to pay the price for its acquisition and application? We may fail to take cognizance of the fact that transgressions caused by deliberate ignorance may not go unpunished.

In reserving depth for ministers of the gospel, we have refused to take intentional steps toward ours. Concerned about those who do not yet know You, yet for us, the question remains: what have we done with our knowledge of You? If knowledge can be a basis for judgment, would deliberate ignorance be overlooked?

The ignorance of a few can be overcome by the heightened knowledge of the majority. Perhaps ignorance persists because those entrusted with the knowledge of You have not faithfully lived it or shared it. The question lingers: what have I done with my knowledge of You?

Dear Father,

King David wrote powerful words, many of which remain essential in understanding Your purpose and program for our lives. One of his epistles says, “He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.” This scripture is often read without considering its existential effect in our lives. First, we must ask: how, when, and why do You teach our hands to war?

I have seen how soldiers are trained for war. Their bodies, minds, and entire beings bear witness that they are no longer who they used to be. It is a process so tedious that it cannot happen without their awareness. Likewise, Your program for our lives involves seasons in which we are trained for war. Today, I pondered the danger of entering such seasons unaware--fighting training as though it were destructive.

Our successes as Christians depend not solely on our commitment to prayer and fasting, but also on our ability to discern seasons and, perhaps, their reasons. David knew when the prayer point should be about his enemies and when he was being trained. But how many of us can tell the difference?

Growth in this kingdom requires an understanding of the seasons we are in and the virtues they are meant to birth within us. Only then will we enter such seasons seeking the virtues rather than focusing on the struggles.

Dear Father,

In Nigeria, forty six children were kidnapped, and even more terrifying is that they showed no mercy to the children between the ages of two and seven. They are beaten and treated like criminals--innocent young minds who can barely distinguish evil from good.

I wonder if they are old enough for questions to linger in their minds, or if, according to their nature, they forgive the kidnappers each time they are mistreated. I also wonder how long this traumatic experience will linger after they are finally free. After praying, I dreamt that the nation needs to come together as one, build unwavering strategies, and fight for the change we desire to see.

When men built a tower to reach heaven, You Yourself affirmed: “Behold, the people is one, and nothing will be restrained from them...” For a long while, our desire for change has remained trapped in webs of intention and conversations, and we experience no change because we employ similar strategies--none that fully honor the power of speaking with one voice.

When all businesses shut down operations and we deny ourselves comfort, stepping right into the streets--both rich, poor, small and great, with no taxes paid and no future election honored until we see change...I believe the united voice of the people is capable of overcoming the terror that has gripped the nation.

Dear Father,

Lately, loved ones have expressed concerns about the timing of events in my life, the delays involved, and the seeming lack of expected outcomes. Their voices have become so prevalent that I almost stopped to think these recurring concerns were affirmations that I should settle for what I do not even feel ready for. Yet, when I consulted You, I was assured: “I am right where I need to be.”

Still, I pondered the voices of loved ones, and how they can subtly become tools the enemy uses to derail a person from the right path. I remembered the Scripture where Jesus prophesied about His death to His disciples. Then Peter began to rebuke Him, saying, “Be it far from thee, Lord.” Yet Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Get behind me, Satan!”

How is it that the good intention of a loved one could, from the perspective of purpose, be interpreted as inspiration from the devil? We have not looked deeply enough into this deception: that when we are not derailed by obvious evil, the enemy may disguise deception as something good through a trusted voice. How many have been led astray after yielding to the subtle whispers of loving intentions?

However, we must exercise caution, for to truly recognize deception, we must first know You--the One who reveals and directs the journey of our lives.
