I just finished watching THE LAST ASSISTANT by Ihuoma Sonia Uche and I need to stop and clap for Sonia Uche. 👏 What this lady just did is not common in Nollywood. Especially from a young actress like her. She produced this movie. She executive produced this movie. She put her money, her time, her vision and her energy into this project, and then she stepped back and let the story breathe without putting herself in it. Second time she's doing such. ❤️🙏❤️
Do you understand how rare that is?
Most producers in Nollywood will fund the movie, executive produce the movie, and somehow end up as the lead actress or support actress. Sonia Uche trusted her story. She trusted her cast. She let the work speak. And that level of creative discipline and confidence is what separates a filmmaker from someone who just wants to be seen. Sonia Uche is a filmmaker. Remember that name.
Now to the story. Jed had power and he used it the wrong way. Brilliant real estate executive. But behind closed doors, toxic, abusive, exploitative.
How you treat people on your way up will determine whether you stay up. Power does not make a person. It reveals them. And what Jed's power revealed was a man who confused authority with ownership. Pushed by his ruthless Debbie. Pay attention to who is beside you. Not everyone cheering your ambition is cheering for you. Some people are cheering for what your success gives them. When the success disappears, they disappear too.
Muna came with loyalty, intelligence, compassion and a work ethic that refused to be shaken even when she was disrespected. That is the person you want in your corner. Not the one who pushes you to be ruthless. The one who pushes you to be better.
Your success means nothing if the people who helped you get there are broken by the experience. Real leadership is not about how high you climb. It is about who is still standing beside you when you get there, and whether they are standing there with dignity or with wounds.
Treat people well. Not because they are watching. Not because it is polite. But because the same people you ignore on your way up are often the same people God sends to rebuild you when you fall.
Special shout out to Sultana, Daniel Etim, Chisom Gabriella, Moses and all the cast and crews for a wonderful Job.
THE LAST ASSISTANT is sharp, intelligent, and necessary. This is the kind of movie you send to your boss. Anonymously. 😂
Sonia Uche, You produced a mirror. And every workplace in Nigeria needs to sit in front of it. Go watch it. Now. 🔥 10/10.
