Meet Billionaire G.U. Okeke, CEO of G.U.O Motors.

Godwin Ubaka Okeke, who is popularly called GUO, is a popular Nigerian transport guru. He is the owner of popular GUO Transport Company.

GUO was born on the 6th of June in the year 1949 in Onitsha, Anambra State Nigeria. But he is an indigene of Adazi Ani in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra.

How it all started:

The day after the Civil War ended in January 1970, he went to Onitsha to see the condition of his father's property. But on his way back, he saw people looking for vehicles to take them to their destinations. He was driving his father Peugeot car, so he carried eight people and took them to Enugu and collected £1.00 as his fare.

After dropping them off, he picked up another eight people and took them to Anambra.

That experience made him believe that transportation was a profitable business. He ventured into it.

Today, his transport company is one of the leading transport companies in the country.

GUO is also a philanthropist and he has done so many things to help people.

1)The first Nigerian Medical Doctor was Nathaniel Thomas King. His father was Rev Thomas King who assisted Bishop Ajayi Crowder in translating the Bible to Yoruba language. Dr King lived from 1847 to 1884.

2)The Yoruba language is the Niger-Congo language with the largest number of native speakers in the world, 50 million people speak Yoruba language natively in 2022 according to Ethnologue.

3)The first Nigerian Lawyer was Chief Sapara Williams. A Yoruba man who became a Lawyer in 1879. He was the Lodifi of Ilesa.

4)WNTV Ibadan was the first TV station in Nigeria and Africa. The first broadcast was aired on October 31, 1959. The government of Yorubaland were visionary enough ensuring their denizens had access to mass audiovisual media before countries like; Egypt: 1960, New Zealand: 1960, Israel: 1966 & South Africa: 1976. The station played a significant role in beaming taped Yoruba traveling theatre productions to households all over the old Western region.

5)The first Nigerian to release a music album was Canon Josiah Jesse Ransome-Kuti, Fela Anikulapo’s grandfather and Wole Soyinka’s great grandfather. He released it in 1878 and his last album was released in August 1921. His works are still kept at the British Museum.

6)In 1894, Olayinka Herbert Macaulay became the first trained Nigerian Engineer. He also trained in England as an Architect. He was a Civil Engineer. He later ventured into politics and formed the first political party in Nigeria, Nigeria National Democratic Party, NNDP in 1923 and later the NCNC, the National Council of Nigeria and Cameroons. He was also a Journalist and a Surveyor. He is widely considered as the founder of Nigerian Nationalism.

7)The first Nigerian woman to qualify and practice law was Stella Thomas, a Yoruba woman who became a Lawyer in 1935 and also became the first female magistrate in Nigeria in 1943.

Mike Ejeagha, The Father Of Igbo Folklore Music

Mike Ejeagha is a Nigerian folklorist, songwriter, and musician from Enugu State, Nigeria. Ejeagha started his career in music in the mid-20th century. Also known as Gentleman, Ejeagha has been influential in the evolution of music in the Igbo language for over 6 decades. His first hit was in 1960 - the year of Nigeria's independence.

Ejeagha is a renowned Igbo folklore musician with over 37 Albums and five singles to his credit. His 1960 song "Ofu nwa anaa" shot him to fame. He hails from Imezi-Owa in Ezeagu LGA of Enugu state.

Ejeagha brought honor, glory and majesty to Ndi Igbo and kept the ancient ways of our ancestors alive through his folklore music. Mike Ejeagha is regarded as the father of Igbo folklore music.

In Igbo land, due to his trademark of telling long stories in his music, you would be told "Akụkọ Mike Ejeagha" to a long story.

There is every reason to celebrate Highlife maestro, Mike Ejeagha, the man who turns folklore and proverbs to sweet music, maintains his integrity and leaves listeners filled with much respect for culture. At 93, wisdom is still flowing from his fountain.

With about 350 recordings at the National Archives, Ejeagha has 33 albums to his name. He was certified by the University of Nigeria Nsukka and reawakened by the duo of Amarachi Atammah and Charles Ogbu. There is a documentary, Gentleman, by Michael Ike. Mike Ijeagha lost his first wife in 1963, remarried in 1966 and has nine surviving children.
