Our Family Lawyer Who Stole My Family Inheritance: Retribution
Chapter One: The Will That Changed Everything
The day my father was buried, the rain refused to stop. It fell as though heaven itself mourned the passing of Chief Emmanuel Okafor, a respected businessman whose generosity had transformed the lives of countless people. Standing beside his grave, I believed the hardest part of my life was over.
I was wrong.
Three weeks after the funeral, my mother, my younger brothers, and I gathered in the office of our family's trusted lawyer, Barrister Richard Lawson. For over twenty years, he had handled every legal matter for our family. My father trusted him completely, often calling him "the son I never had."
We never imagined that trust would become the weapon used against us.
Barrister Lawson adjusted his glasses and unfolded what he claimed was my father's final will.
"I'm sorry," he said in a calm voice. "According to your late father's wishes, almost all of his properties have been transferred to a charitable foundation under my management. Your family will receive only the family house."
Silence filled the room.
My mother's face turned pale.
"That can't be true," she whispered. "My husband promised our children would inherit everything he worked for."
The lawyer simply shrugged.
"I can only read what is written."
Something felt wrong. My father had often spoken about leaving his businesses equally to his children. Why would he suddenly change his mind without telling anyone?
As we left the office, I noticed a brief smile cross the lawyer's face. It disappeared as quickly as it came, but it was enough to convince me that this was no ordinary reading of a will.
Someone was lying.
That evening, I searched through my father's study. Hidden inside an old law book, I found a small notebook. On the final page, my father had written a single sentence:
"If anything happens to me, never trust the last will unless Grace confirms it."
Who was Grace?
And why had my father hidden this message?
At that moment, I made a promise beside his empty chair.
"I don't care how long it takes," I whispered. "I will uncover the truth, reclaim my family's inheritance, and make everyone responsible answer for what they have done."
Little did I know that the journey ahead would expose decades of betrayal, corruption, greed, and a secret powerful enough to destroy the lawyer who thought he had won.
His retribution had already begun.
If you enjoy this opening, I can continue with Chapter Two: The Secret Witness, where the family's investigation uncovers evidence that the will was forged and a dangerous conspiracy begins to unravel.
