The standardization and management systems world is vibrating with excitement over the final approval and subsequent publication of the latest version of the very popular standard of the International Organization for Standardization, ISO – ISO 9001. With this publication, version ISO 9001:2008 officially gives way to the latest and newest version ISO 9001:2015.

The business implication of this is that henceforth, any organization wishing to certify to the ISO Quality Management System will be doing so using the platform of the new ISO 9001:2015 standard.

INTRODUCTION

The rapidly unfolding and excitingly important phenomenon of business globalization is presenting management challenges to organizations across the continental divides. The question arises, are there confirmed benefits to be derived from installing a management system in a business organization? Specifically, will certifying to a management systems standard add value to a business? To answer this very important question, we need to see results of researches on this issue:
A 2011 Survey from the British Assessment Bureau reported that 44% of their certified clients won new businesses. Obviously, people are impressed with the business image of certified companies.
In another research, Cobett et al, found out that certified organizations achieved superior return on assets compared to otherwise similar organizations without certification. That report is true because an effective Quality Management system seeks to satisfy the needs and expectations of the purchaser as well as protect the interests of the investor organization.
Heras et al collaborated the above work by Cobett and went further to demonstrate that such performance was statistically significant and not just a function of organizational size.
