Cape Town diary🔥👌

Hello, fellow adventurers and eco-enthusiasts! I finally found a moment to share my incredible journey to SA, thanks to the Economist Impact Summit. It was my first visit to this vibrant city, and what an experience it was!

I had the honor of participating in a panel discussion themed "Encouraging Businesses to Join the Green Industrial Revolution." This topic is right up my alley, Sharing our pilot projects as proof of concept for the Green Economy was a highlight for me. These projects (Leave No One Behind, EcoCirculate, EcoNexus, Charity Begins At Home) are not just theoretical musings; they are tangible simulations of what’s possible when we embrace sustainable practices.

One of the key points I emphasized was the importance of EESG—Economic, Environmental, Social, and Governance factors. I like to add the 'Economic' aspect as a crucial emotional connector for driving behavioral change. It's a vital tool for adapting to climate change through the circular economy.

We discussed the African economy’s challenges, such as unemployment, knowledge gaps, and infrastructural issues. However, there's a silver lining: a growing interest in investment opportunities in our emerging sectors.

I also shared our five practical pillars under the OCCE framework, which guide our efforts to build a green economy in Lagos:

1. People Development
2. Commerce
3. Regenerative Finance
4. Data
5. Policy

I presented some of our initiatives as case studies, demonstrating how they align with these pillars and pitching the business case for scalability. The response was fantastic, and I made some valuable connections. Shoutout to Dr. Kuzi Charamba Lucy Muigai from Lab Africa, and Sibongile Gangxa of Empowaworx.co.za — I'm sure you guys are feeling the OCCE vibes already 😂

Of course, no trip is complete without a little adventure. I managed to crash a party at my hotel 🙉 🙈 and took some time to soak in the breathtaking beauty of Cape Town, affectionately known as Mother City.

Last week at the unveiling of the EcoNexus initiative, a timely and critical circular economy initiative by the Lagos State government aimed at reducing pollution and creating economic opportunities through sustainable waste management.

Finding me...💝

When I took this picture at the Circular Economy conference two months ago, I’ll be honest—it didn’t exactly knock my socks off. In fact, I thought it was too dark and a bit too simple. Fast forward to yesterday, as I was flicking through the treasure trove of images on my phone, I stumbled upon it again. And just like that, it catapulted me into a whirlwind of memories and reflections about the journey of the person who stood before that camera lens.

Let’s talk about transformation! My hair texture, style, skin, and even my quirky glasses have all travelled through mountains and valleys to find their happy place. I’ve learned to hit the brakes on time-wasting tasks, and instead, I’ve discovered the joy of pouring my energy into things that truly light me up. I’ve battled through “my own personal summers” (if you know, you know), and guess what? I’ve emerged victorious! Now, I’ve got no Fs left to give, and let me tell you, that feels liberating!

I’ve navigated through seasons and tides, and I’ve had my fair share of time and chance throwing curveballs my way. But through it all, I’ve unearthed strength, tenacity, fortitude, and a hefty dose of grit to steer my vision. I know what I like, what gives me the tick, and yes, I’m well aware of my pet peeves and triggers. And I bet you can relate! Once we find and accept who we are, it’s like we’re ready to take on the world with a big, goofy grin.

Isn’t it fascinating how a single picture can stir up a cocktail of emotions and insights just by gazing at it? After about five minutes of letting all these thoughts marinate, I was finally ready to share the picture with the world.

So here I am, folks! Take it or leave it!

But let’s not let the fundamental lesson slip through the cracks…

While your manner may have been stern at times, you possessed the finesse to soften the edges and uplift spirits.
