HOW TO MARKET YOUR BUSINESS
I see many small business trying to compete for relevance in a highly competitive market where the big guys already have dominance. It is said that out of 10 small business venture, few survive to stay in business for 3 years, the question is WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHERS?
Many of them had zeal, probably their ideas were even better than the ones that survived. The truth is, the bloodline of every business are the CUSTOMERS/CLIENTS.
No matter how well packaged and time you have spent to make the quality twice as nice as that of your competitors, if nobody is seeing it or buying it, you will produce and consume all by yourself.
Here is the good news, no matter the product you sell or the services you offer, there is a customer or a client every day waiting for you. All you need to do is to position yourself in such a way that your potential clients or customers can see you.
I will be sharing few tips on what to do to position (market) yourself in order to attract your desired clients or customers:
1.Network at events: Put your ears on the ground for social, business or political events around you. Go for business summits, seminars, conferences e. t. c. apart from the exposure and training you will get from these events, you get to network with your prospective clients. Though, some may cost you money, at the end, it should be worth the effort. For Nigerians, you can log on to www.eventbright.com to see up and coming events around you.
2. Word of Mouth: This is the oldest and in my opinion the most effective form of marketing your brand, though, it is slower in terms of reach but it gives you the opportunity to pitch your brand e.t.c. It’s still the most effective means of marketing.
3. Free: Everyone love free stuff, this word works a lot especially if your product is new in town. While people are yet to believe in your product or services, introduce the “free” word. There is a way the word free registers in our brain and make us act.
Recently, I was in the market to get some material for my farm when a man approached to get a free SIM card. Honestly, I didn’t need the SIM card but I got it because it was free. Interestingly I have not used it since I used up the bonus credit given to me. You may ask, why did you get the SIM card? Very simple, because IT WAS FREE! Even the rich love free things.
An example of what you can do is to make it known to people via any platform you desire that the first 10 people to patronize you will get free services. Trust me, as long as you offer quality, not only will those 10 customers come back but they will also refer 10 customers each. This works a lot. But be sure the freebies you offer, your business has the capacity to cater for it.
To be continued.
