Genesis 37
I need everyone of of us to contribute towards this.
The story of Joseph's dream and his betrayal by his brothers.
Joseph was the favorite son of Jacob because he was born to him in his old age. To show his preference, Jacob gave Joseph a " robe" (often called the coat of many colors).
This favoritism causes Joseph’s ten older brothers to hate him so much that they planned to kill him.
Joseph had two dreams that further incite his brothers' rage:
Jacob sends his son (Joseph) to check on his brothers while they are tending flocks. Seeing him coming from a distance, the brothers plotted to kill him.
The eldest brother, Reuben, tries to save Joseph by suggesting they throw him into a dry (pit) instead of killing him, secretly planning to come back and rescue him later.
While Reuben was away, the merchants passes by, at Judah’s suggestion, the brothers decide to make a profit rather than leave Joseph to die. They sold Joseph for 20 shekels of silver. The merchants then took Joseph down to Egypt.
To cover their evil act, the brothers dip Joseph’s famous robe in the blood of a slaughtered goat. They brought it to Jacob, who recognizes it and concludes that a "ferocious animal" has devoured his son. Jacob is inconsolable and enters a period of deep mourning, refusing to be comforted. Where is everyone?
