Nigeria is a federation. This means each state is supposed to have a significant degree of autonomy, including in matters like appointing officials to head state agencies. The President appointing officers for Rivers State undermines that basic principle.
I honestly don’t know what to believe anymore. The more I try to rationalize why President Tinubu should be appointing officers into Rivers State agencies, the more it defies logic. If the suspended governor eventually returns to office, is he expected to simply accept and work with appointees he never appointed? How does that make any constitutional or democratic sense?
