If you need to tell people you’re in charge, you’re NOT in charge. If you have to announce authority, it’s already missing. Real authority is felt before it’s spoken. 😉

Proof of life.

Still breathing, still an author. To get a copy, check or just message me.

P:S: I remember every word/verse in this song. Though I miss the older original version of the song. 😊

I am of the school of thought that more than 99% of problems announce themselves from the start.

There’s this block-blast game I play on my phone. I only pick it up when my mind feels too full, too distracted for Netflix or Prime Video, and too restless for any conversation. It has become my hiding place and a spot I retreat to when I’m overwhelmed but still need to think through a decision.

And in the short space I have been playing this game, I noticed something. In that game, you can almost always tell from the first few moves whether you’re headed for a high score or if it’s a doomed run. If the game keeps forcing you to use retries too early, you already know the end won’t be great. It’s like chess but in a reverse sort of way. One wrong starting move and you know you are f* .

Life (and work) is a lot like that. Some problems give us early warnings. You see the red flags. You know that a deal or move isn’t clean, that that hire isn’t a fit, that project is already broken at the foundation and that the amount you conceded to collect for it means you can never deliver a good job..

But many times, maybe out of stubbornness, overconfidence, village people refusing to stop pressing on your destiny, or just “let’s see how it goes”, we keep pushing anyway. And just like in the game, we burn through retries we could have saved for the battles that matter.

Sometimes, the smartest move we can make for ourselves is to recognize a “dead game” early, cut our losses, and channel our energy into the plays that actually have a future.

But guess what? Many a times, you see this lesson? We only learn it from personal experience. Like our wafi people will say, ‘’If hand never toush you, you no go rest.’’

In another news, Ai insists this is me. Shared different images of me and it got more ridiculous with each new image I shared. I wonder if these images are of someone who exists somewhere on earth or in another universe. Cos it sure ain’t me! 🤣🌝

𝐔𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲, 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭. ☹️

Not trying to play the devil’s advocate here, but unless a company has an automated recruitment process, it’s honestly hard to give feedback to every single candidate, especially when hundreds apply. That said, I completely agree that candidates who make it to the semi-final or final stage deserve some form of closure.

It’s however not black and white. Some candidates take feedback really, really badly. And I am speaking from experience. I still remember a guy who traveled all the way from the East for an interview in Lagos many year back, and when he wasn’t selected, he blasted my small size and that “I no get sense”. Another lady, after I gave her direct feedback face to face, sent me a long email filled with insults and unsolicited career advice. Many HR professionals have stories for days!

Companies know rejection is tough, which is why the famous caveat: “𝙄𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙤 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙪𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣 𝙓 𝙙𝙖𝙮𝙨, 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙪𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙛𝙪𝙡” is usually added during the end of an interview session. It’s not ideal, I know, but it’s a way to set expectations.

That said, I do think ghosting final-stage candidates is unfair. If someone has gone through multiple rounds, they should get a proper update, even if it’s just a polite rejection. And like I said, I may have been guilty too at some point due to the overwhelming interview process or the entire recruitment process being manual.

Have you noticed the difference in lunch breaks between the public and private sectors?

In the private sector, lunchtime is often ignored. It is “grab a snack while completing tasks and responding to emails” time. We’re too busy, too stressed, and deadlines are looming. We all know taking breaks is essential, but how many of us actually do it?

In the public sector, lunch breaks are taken seriously. Have you ever been to a government office at noon? They’ll tell you they’re on break, and you’ll just have to wait, No exceptions, even with 100 people waiting😂. They don’t play about their breaks at all. In fact you know better than to target visiting any government office between 12 and 2pm in Nigeria. You’re just going to be doing yourself! 🤣

By neglecting those priority breaks though, you’re only piling up stress for yourself. 30 minutes a day to yourself won’t make the office come crashing down.

This week, try stepping away from your desk and eat lunch without multitasking. Your office won’t collapse. I have a colleague who used to come around at noon to get us off our desk for like 15-20 minutes to stretch and do something. He has stopped sha because we all used to show so much reluctance getting up.

I’m sure colleagues in the civil service can’t relate. 😊

Your productivity (and sanity) will thank you!

“𝐈’𝐦 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭!” is what you say at the slightest sign of responsibility or workplace conflict.

It sounds fun at first, because you know you can easily get a new job. But, after 9 jobs in just 2 years, your resume is now looking like a 𝘠𝘰𝘳𝘶𝘣𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘭’𝘴 talking stage profile, many short term situationships and zero commitments.

Every 3-6-9 months, you would resign with a dramatic exit, feel liberated (for a short while), realise life does not revolve around you, and repeat the cycle.

Short-term emotional decisions might bring instant gratification, but they can lead to long-term career chaos.Try to think beyond immediate gratification. Invest in skills, build a network and create a future.

As it is, there are some juicy organizations you may never be able to work when you have so many short stint full time jobs on your CV. The question is, where have you stayed long to impact value or drive those projects you implemented to see them to success? This is the question any sensible business leader would have when going through your CV. So sometimes, you’re not getting a call back because your CV begs so many questions.

I’ve come to accept that I suffer from analysis paralysis, sometimes.

If you need me to make a decision, please, simplify it. Strip it down to its bare bones. The more complex the options, the more likely I am to abandon ship.

Funny enough, I’ve also noticed this is a common struggle for a lot of men. Ever seen those posts where women complain that when they send their partners long messages with multiple questions, they only get a response to the last one? Yeah. I believe there’s a brain wiring issue at play, and unfortunately, for some funny and weird reasons, I have it too. Once the choices become too many, my brain clocks out.

Maybe that’s why I love humor so much. It keeps things light, simple, and digestible, even when tackling serious topics. That’s exactly the approach I took with my latest book, 101 Workplace Secrets.

I didn’t want to write another bulky, complex career book that feels like an HR manual. I wrote the kind of book I’d eagerly buy; one with big fonts, illustrative pictures, and straight-to-the-point wisdom. No fluff. No excess theory. Just real-life workplace survival hacks.

101 Workplace Secrets is your unfiltered corporate guide to managing subtle and not so subtle office politics, managing up, and understanding the hidden rules of career growth. Because your job description is never the full story.
