Simple Thoughts from AikonData
Mark Zuckerberg's visit to Nigeria is amazing. It simply tells us how big our tech companies are becoming. It also shows that we have enough positive potentials for growth and development.
While we celebrate Zuck's visit, we should also remember that Aero Contractors, a huge employer of Nigerians, has just shut down its operations in Nigeria.
This will take a toll on the already declining economy of Nigeria. People will depend heavily on others, and some salary earners will stretch their means.
The interesting, or rather ironic, thing here is this: while we are complaining and shutting down our economy, others are celebrating and trying earnestly to invest into the same economy.
What are we not seeing about ourselves?
What is so special yet so hidden about Nigerians that even Nigerians themselves don't notice?
Principally, I think the toughest times in life are also the greatest times for big opportunities. And as my friend recalls, there's still money rotating in the Nigerian system; the only issue is that the money just seems to change hands.
When I look out of my window, I see a magnificent duplex that was completed in four months. I'm always tempted to ask the owner where the money came from. This has given me enough reasons to believe that people will always thrive in adversity. It also reinforces the belief that while I complain about the system, some other person is working (hard, smart, lazily, leisurely) and making money.
Zuck celebrated Nigerians. Aero (and many other companies) grounded operations in Nigeria. This is a classic case of one country; different perspectives.
Glory Ahead!
