IF YOU WOULD BLAME THE GOVERNMENT, BLAME YOURSELF.
It is a common thing in democracy for people to criticize or blame their government in matters of inefficiency. But it is quite unfortunate , that the people do not also practice what they expect from the government, even within a limited geographical entity.
When the government increase fuel price, it takes you five minutes to effect at your own filling station. But when government cut down the price, your own remains or takes months to change on the pump. It is unpatriotic! Drivers take advantage of that, increase T–fare and will never reverse it even if fuel comes back to 10naira. Annoyingly, they increase T–fare on weekends. On what ground? Isn't that corruption? Organizations will reduce the quantity and quality of products, but increase the prices, because of some governmental policies. But when the government reverse such policies, the quality and rich quantities are never returned. It continues to soar. What do you call that?
When government order you to provide security and maintain peace in an area for a short time, you turn the peace into pieces. You introduce different forms of torture to exercise your power within that short time frame. Isn't that abuse of right? Do you still blame the government for that?
This is the time for real test of patriotism. Everybody keeps looking at the president for economic relief package. What happens to your own state governor? If your state is too large for him to share food or money, what of your Local government chairman? If you are over populated in your area beyond the provisions of local government, what are the councilors and supervisors doing in their wards? If they can't also care for everyone in their wards, what of the well to do people in your community? If they are afraid of witches and wizards, what of that man who is better than everyone in your family. Can't he provide help now? When everyone takes care of his immediate persons, federal government w

*THE FUTURE OF NIGERIA'S ECONOMY LIES WITH THE CBN. – Ojukwu Peter.*
Compiled by Aliu Akeem, Timothy Samuel

These are the words of the Economic expert. " *How quick the economy will recover after the pandemic, depends on the actions taken by the CBN. The CBN has to pull out fund for businesses in the country, the* *it has to cut down interest rate on loans collected, has to find ways to get money into the hands of the populace* ". He also cited a practical case of the American society to illustrate his postulations. " *take for example, what the American government did, giving every couple $2,400 and those with kids extra $500. The money was not given because of CONVID-19, but as a way to prevent their economy from falling to the ground."*

Recall, that the Nigeria economy before the convid19 pandemic, has been in scramble. The poor masses dance to the beat of wretched lives as foods and essential needs turned luxurious. This convid19 era, has moved the hardship time to another gear. As people cry on the media everyday seeking for liberation from hunger virus.
Speaking in a panel interview with *The Social Watch (TSW* ), newsmen on Sunday, he analyzed the current state of the economy and says the future of the economy after the pandemic lies with the CBN. He says that the country is already in recession. "most recessions are either caused by demand, supply or financial shocks. The COVID-19 pandemic promises to deliver all three in a single package. In the course of this, businesses will be lost, jobs will be lost, companies will fold unless the CBN gives out a bailout fund."

He also says that a fall in the global oil price, means that the 2020 federal government budget will be tough to finance. Because, it has been projected on the sale of $57 per barrel as against the current situation. However, he negates the notion that the fall in oil price is responsible for the inflation in the country. Rather, high demand of goods in a society of limited supply

BUILD MORE HOSPITALS, EQUIP THE AVAILABLE ONES, AND RELIEF THE POPULACE OF HUNGER, FROM DONATIONS. MASSES TELL GOVT.

The masses on Tuesday 31st of March 2020, after the live broadcast of the President Mohamadu Buhari who addressed the nation on Sunday 29th March and declared a total lock down on majorly convid19 affected cities, took to the social handles suggesting ways on how the government can rechannel the huge donations they have received from well to do Nigerians. This suggestions were made to *The Social Watch (TSW)* media correspondents in an online open forum on Tuesday as the total lockdown begins.

Barrister jide, in the open forum said that the coronavirus pandemic is actually a time for the Nigerian government to make achievements in the health sector and also to standardize the hospitals conditions in the country. He believes that employment opportunities could still be created even in this period. And that if Nigeria works harder, it is a time of many benefits to transform the old narratives. In agreement Mr Hunsamenu Jesse *( an agropreneur),* prompted that if the government fails to address the hunger issue through economic stimulus and commodity cheaks, in no mean time, some youths who feed on daily hustling will resort to theft and bugling. Thereby, increasing crime rate in the society.

Meanwhile Mr Dare, a teacher, urged that the government should solve the problem of the covid19 using all the expertise we have produce in this country he also added that it is no time for mediocrity, " Do not only adopt European style to this issue we are battling, adopt socialcultural ideas and all the African methods at your disposal. How come we have long forgotten our approach to our own issue?

However, Adesewa a student pleads that those playing philantropic roles should play it directly to those close to them, not only the government purse.

CHAPTER FIVE: FACTORS THAT PLUCKED DOWN THE GROWTH OF BADAGRY

Many people who haven't been to Badagry, hearing the name usually paint a very big picture of the area owing to her interesting histories. It is an area which ought to be the Victoria Island of Lagos, or the Abuja of Nigeria. But So many factors connived to shatter her glorious upbringing. And today, the land is wailing for attention as she has been clothed with tattered humiliating attires.

Here are the some of the factors:
✅ *EDUCATION* : Even though education started with us, the attitude of the past generations or the rate of its adoption was really poor. Because of the lack of education, so many things happened. Uptil now, Badagry can not boast of 10 professors. The lack of education failed to change the psychological view of things by our predecessors. They failed to question facts and perceived everything as a means of edification. Due to the lack of education, they couldn't speak out their minds, cry for their needs, mingle with influential people and pursue what will be of immense importance to future generations, aside coconut. Not until the late 20th century before education started receiving its desired attention.

✅ *POLITICS* One of the widely known problems of democracy is that, it doesn't bring equal development. A side is favoured than the other. Badagry has really suffered in the hands of politics. Just as every other LGA in Nigeria has tasted multi political parties, Badagry is not an exemption. Obafemi Awolowo's UPN, M.K.O. Abiola's SDP, PDP, AD had all thrived in Badagry. But none of them appreciated the efforts of the historical city. The PDP federal government era did some highlighting things. But this current regime has even removed some of the glories. Also, I think that my people didn't join politics on time. Before they realized it, other local governments had leapfrogged them.

✅ *MARGINALIZATION AND DEHUMANIZATION, absence of influential figure, poverty, bad roads etc.

*CHAPTER FOUR: HISTORICAL AND TOURIST PLACES IN BADAGRY.*

Badagry is actually a tourism hub. It is a place with so many national histories. It's nickname, is supposed to be" *home of the firsts".* No wonder, Prof. Wole Soyinka alludes to it as the cradle of civilization, in his book– *The Lion and The Jewel* . Let's take a journey round the city, to see the places.

⚜ *THE FIRST STOREY BUILDING IN NIGERIA:* This building actually represents the kickoff of civilization and modernization in Nigeria. The foundation was laid in 1842, by Rev. Henry Townsend and completed in 1845. The unique value of the building, is that, it is wooden. And uptil now, it's still alive and hearty.

⚜ *THE FIRST CHURCH IN NIGERIA*: Just at the entrance gate of His Majesty, the Akran of Badagry is the tall gigantic building of the church. Though, there are controversies that the first church in Nigeria was built in Abeokuta. Facts, prove this wrong! The Cathedral church of ST Peter in Abeokuta was established in 1898. Similarly, the Presbyterian Church in Calabar, which was built in 1846, is also in that chain. But Badagry's Methodist Church was established in 1842.

⚜ *THE FIRST PRIMARY SCHOOL IN NIGERIA* : Education started in Nigeria as a missionary idea. Hence, the christain missioners established the first school in 1843 – ST Peter primary school. The school is also strong and agile now.

⚜ *THE OLDEST MUSEUM IN NIGERIA*: There are also claims that the oldest museum in Nigeria is in kwara state. That museum– Esie museum, was built in 1943. While Badagry's Heritage Museum was established in 1863.

⚜ *THE FIRST WELL IN NIGERIA* Since modernization started in Badagry, this is expected. The well was dug in 1847, and distilled is the water that comes from it today.

⚜ *SLAVE BARACOON* : This is the place where slave relics are. It was established to preserve the slavery experience to coming generations. Some items used by the slave masters such as: neck chain, leg chain, canes, um

*CHAPTER THREE* : *BADAGRY'S ECONOMIC STRUCTURE*

Badagry is not a burden to Nigeria. Rather, a blessing. It's geographical stand as an entry and exit point of the country has really helped to bring in huge economic activities and growth to the nation.

The primordial economic activities of the Badagry people are: fishing, salt cooking, coconut plantation, mat weaving and cassava farming. Around the 90s, international trade boomed and many people digressed into it. And today, it served as one of the major source of income to the federal government. The current economic structure are:

✳ *IMPORTATION* : the inflow of goods from Benin Republic to Nigeria is a major economic activity and a highly income generating source to the government. In 2019, the Nigeria customs service, accrued a total income of 4.4billion naira to the federal government purse, through Seme border alone. Goods that are bought cheaply from cottonou and sell profitably in Nigeria include: Rice, turkey, vehicles, apple, orange, ground nut oil, pineapple, soap, clothings, bags and shoes and more.

✳ *COCONUT PLANTATION* . Nigeria sits as the eighth highest coconut producing country in the world. Lagos State is responsible for 70% of the country's source. Badagry produces 50% of Lagos coconut, thereby, it's the highest coconut producing region in Nigeria. Though, the trees are becoming countable in some areas, but your visit to Badagry West will be welcomed by millions of coconut trees in jubilation. The coconuts are bought by people who use it for different purposes. Especially the factory workers.

✳ *EXPORTATION* International trade involves mutual moving in and out of goods from one country to another. Since Nigerians get almost everything from cottonou, a mutual benefit must ensue. Since no nation is self sufficient. From Badagry, international traders take in petroleum products, dunlop slipper

CHAPTER TWO: THE BADAGRIANS

Lagos State is a cosmopolitan area. And Badagry is largely responsible for this. Badagry is a place inhabited by many tribes in Nigeria and outside Nigeria. It's a place controlled by preponderance Egun tribes, who are the first settlers of the land and Awori the second settlers.

The Egun tribe took dominance of two of the three local government areas: Badagry West and Badagry central. The West is completely dominated by the Egun "thefi" dialect and a few Awori speakers in Apa area. In the busy Seme border, there are many non– indigenous tribes enjoying their lives in their leased territories. The Zongo, is the quarters allotted to the hausas for their settlement. It houses the : hausas, fulanis, nupes, jukuns, carambanis and all other tribes from the north, including the Niger Republic citizens. Jesus Kingdom is the place for the: Igbos, deltans, isoko, efik, ukwani and other tribes from the South or East. The "huto" (beach side) orAganyinkodji" welcomes the Ghanians. They prefer the beach side since most of them are into fishing. Areas encroached by them are: Sessikodji, Boglo, Fanuvi,Akoro, Sapo and Kofeganmen.

In Badagry Central, the Egun tribe are mixed with yorubas called "ayonu". The ayonus, unlike other non– indigenous tribes are mixed together in the land with the Egun speakers. But the entire Ajara axis is populated by the "gunus" who speak the seto and alada sub dialect. The alada is perceived as the lingua Franca of the Badagry people. It is the language used on Radio Lagos and Lagos television.

The third Loca council development area- Olorunda, is the home of the Aworis. The Aworis are more in this region than the Egun speakers. This is so, because of history. Some places where the Egun people occupy in this area are Ikoga, Ajido and more.

Have you seen that the Badagry people are not tribalistic? They are welcoming and very intelligent
