The news of the death of the former Ekiti State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. Gboyega Oguntuase, has come to me as a rude shock.

I found it difficult to comprehend the demise of a fellow brother from Ikole Ekiti, who I cherish for his divine gift of brilliance, bravery, courage, eloquence, and political administration.

His tenure as state chairman brought unparalleled growth, development, and stability to Ekiti PDP.

Now that a new dawn of stability and progress has returned to the party after many years of turbulence, we shall all miss him for his noble advice and wisdom.

My condolence goes to the children, wife, family, Ikole Ekiti and Egbeobaland, the PDP family, and the entire people of Ekiti State.

On behalf of my children, wife and political family, I pray that God would comfort us all. Amen.

Over the weekend, I had the honour of attending the PDP National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State. It was refreshing to witness, once again, the full glare of our party’s strength, spirit, and deep acceptance among ordinary Nigerians. The energy of the people reaffirmed what I have always believed.

Having been a proud member of the PDP for well over 20 years, I can say without hesitation that our party remains the strongest voice of the common man. The PDP has consistently stood as the viral, vibrant opposition that truly represents the people and continues to hold the APC accountable at every turn.

While yesterday at the Wadata house may have shown the depth of battle for the soul of the party, I have no doubt that the PDP, under a refreshed national leadership will bounce back even stronger. Our ideals are intact, our structures are firm, and our commitment to Nigeria’s progress remains undiluted.

As our dear nation marks 65 years of independence, I felicitate with all Nigerians at home and in the diaspora. These years have not been without trials.

We have weathered storms, endured economic and political hardships, and still navigate multitudes of challenges. Yet, I remain convinced that change will come if we persevere and continue to press forward for a new Nigeria.

For us in Ekiti, the picture is even clearer. Despite our rich human capital and potential, underdevelopment still defines our reality.

The upcoming Governorship election presents a defining moment. Our people know those who truly mean well for them, and they are ready to change the system that has kept us stagnant for too long.

I am proud to be part of that movement — a system that puts Ekiti First, that seeks genuine progress, and that is committed to freeing our state from the shackles of exploitation.

I rejoice with the wonderful people of our dear state as we step into the new month of September, 2025. May this season bring you peace, progress, and renewed strength.

This new month reminds us that brighter days are possible when we put EKITI FIRST in all that we do.

This new season is also a reminder of our civic responsibility. Our voices matter, and one of the strongest ways to secure our future is through the power of the ballot. I therefore urge everyone, especially our youths, to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise. Go out, get registered, and encourage others around you to do the same.

EKITI ROADS ARE BAD AND WE SHOULDN'T BE QUIET ANYMORE

The recent videos and outcries from Kunle Afod and Woli Agba have once again exposed the deplorable state of our roads, particularly those touted as federal roads.

I have also noted the reactions from government handlers. Frankly, the only sensible response came from the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development, which published alternate routes.

If the other dismissive comments reflect the Governor’s stance, then it is clear he has been deceiving the people and caring very little for their welfare.

I have had my own rough experiences on these roads. I have heard of missed investments, events cancelled, and celebrities avoiding Ekiti altogether because of them and sadly, they are right.

The bad roads choke our economy, hinder development, and repel foreign investment. After more than seven years of APC rule, there is still no solution. Even the Governor’s near-daily trips to Abuja have yielded nothing.

If the Federal Government will not fix these roads, we must, in the interest of our people, find an alternative funding model and proceed. Waiting has cost us more than any reimbursement delay ever could.

I urge Governor Biodun Oyebanji to call his social media attackers to order and focus on getting this critical work done. And if he refuses to act, the people will find and support someone who will.
