Dear Corporate Affairs Commission

Thank you for all you do in maintaining and strengthening Nigeria's corporate registry system.

I do not usually resort to public channels for matters such as this, but I am left with no other option. Over the past several months, I have made multiple attempts to resolve an issue through official channels, including emails and calls to the Help Desk, without success.

Specifically, I have been requesting profile updates for certain companies to enable them to file their Annual Returns. Despite repeated follow-ups, these requests remain unattended to.

With the Annual Returns penalty period approaching, it would be unfair for these companies to be subjected to penalties arising from circumstances beyond their control.

To protect the confidentiality of the affected companies, I will not mention their names here. However, I will be grateful if attention can be given to any email received from [email protected] regarding this matter.

VAT Reminder:
April VAT Returns is Due Tomorrow, 21st May.

Rather than a mere tick-box exercise, tax compliance is a smart cost management tool. Delayed filings now come with automated penalties, and businesses that ignore deadlines may be creating avoidable financial leakages.

Under the new tax regime and as currently implemented on Rev360, the penalty for failure to file VAT returns is:

₦100,000 for the first month of default

₦50,000 for every subsequent month the default continues

Practical Examples

March 2026 VAT not filed
Current exposure: ₦100,000

February 2026 VAT still unfiled
Penalty has rolled to:

February default → ₦100,000

March default → ₦50,000

April default → ₦50,000

May default → ₦50,000

Total exposure: ₦250,000

Truthfully, the 28th Annual Tax Conference held between Monday, 11th - Friday, 15th May was more than just another professional gathering! Tax Administrators and Tax Practitioners delve into the game changers.

It was a strong reminder that taxation in Nigeria is rapidly evolving beyond compliance into technology, sustainability, governance and economic transformation. From the 6 plenary sessions to the breakout sessions (it may interest you to know that two sessions ran concurrently and successfully with silent disco headphone devices), one message stood out clearly: TAX ADMINISTRATION WILL BE DRIVEN BY DIGITAL SYSTEMS, TRANSPARENCY, DATA INTEGRATION AND PROACTIVE COMPLIANCE.

Such, businesses that still rely heavily on manual processes may soon struggle in an increasingly connected tax environment.
