8 mistakes to avoid as an event videographer or photographer
If you're a photographer or videographer in the event world, these mistakes can cost you big time.
1. Arriving late– Events don’t wait. Being late makes you look unprofessional and you might miss key moments.
2. Not checking your gear– Dead batteries, full memory cards, or missing cables can ruin the day. Always test and pack your equipment *before* the event.
3. Not understanding the event flow– You must know what’s happening next. Don’t be the one looking confused while everyone else is dancing or praying.
4. Standing in people’s way– Capture the moment, but don’t block guests or annoy the MC. Learn how to move like a shadow.
5. Ignoring sound quality (for videos) – Crisp video with bad audio is useless. Use a good mic, especially for speeches and performances.
6. Not backing up files immediately – Imagine losing all the footage after a 12-hour event. Always back up—twice.
7. Delivering late – Your clients are excited to see their photos/videos. Don’t make them chase you. Set a deadline and keep it.
8. Being rude or too shy– You’re part of the event crew. Be polite, bold when needed, and build good vibes with the people around you.
At events, you don’t get a second chance. One mistake can cost you future jobs.
So whether you're just starting or already in the game, always stay sharp and professional.
Your next big job might be watching you at this very moment.
