FIINALLLYY!!!! My No 1️⃣ on Greatest Nollymovies ever! LIVING IN BO***GE
I will first start by telling you why its my number 1 before the story. Firstly this is the first direct-to-Video movie released. Before then, movies were released theatrically. Secondly, It is the first home video which achieved blockbuster success. Thirdly, there is hardly any early nollywood legend that cant trace their history back to these movie. Fourthly, It inspired several other great movies which spiralled into this giant industry we call Nollywood today.
The direct-to-video release of the film was key in its success and it soon became the channel of distribution that turned the Nollywood film industry into a wide-reaching output.
Living in Bo***ge influenced and inspired other subsequent works like True Confession, Glamour Girls, Evil passion, Taboo, Circle of Doom, Lagos Na Wa, Nneka the Pretty serpent too numerous to mention.
The story of the movie centers on a Man named Andy Okeke (Kenneth Okonkwo) and his wife, Merit (Nnenna Nwabueze). They’re very poor and all their efforts to change this have proved futile. Andy is battling with Bills.
He complains about failed businesses while his mates are all living big . Merit his wife, tells him she’s not bothered because she knows that God’s time is the best.
Determined to get rich by any means necessary, Andy asks his best friend, Paulo, for “his secret” which he reveals as joining a money making cult.
Andy joins Paulo's cult and sacrifices the person he loves the most: his wife, Merit.
Merit falls sick and die.
Andy gets Super wealthy but his wife's spirit wont stop tormenting him.
Andy returns to the cult to report his dead wife.
The cult slaughter a real-life goat and bathe Andy in its blood as solution.
This doesn’t work and ghost Merit returns with more torments. He runs back to the Cult who informs him his wife cant leave him alone because She was innocent and didnt deserve to be Killed.
They offer him another solution which means he would go blind and wouldnt have a pen!s again. Andy runs mad on hearing this. He roams the streets as a mad man till an ex-prostitute mistress who he knew and who has turned born again sighted him and brought prayer warriors who then delivered Andy from his wife's tormenting Ghost.
