Christmas and New Year is over.
Sights and sounds, experiences and contacts, are indelible in our hearts.
Income, movement of people and experiences are part of tourism during the season.
On a personal note, I am worried, is the hassle and bustle of the season worth it? Why the noise about that time of the year? Does it mean that humanity created what they cannot control? People engage in social vices during that era to meet up and I ask meet up with who?
It might be a season to meet with friends, relatives and allies but that can be done any other time of the year.
I think people should devise a means of reacting to events that they did not create. This period was handed down to us by some folks who have rotten in the soil. It has served their interest then and I doubt if this is serving our interest now.
Who said Jesus was born on 25th December? Please meet a historian for illumination about Xmas and Google Saturnalia to enrich your knowledge.
Africans should stop following some of the conventions that has no relationship with our realities sheepishly. We can correct these things. Who said we must work from 8am to 4pm, monday to friday? Can't we work from Monday to Wednesday/Thursday. Engage in other activities from friday to Sunday......why can't we worship God on a friday or monday...Who created Sunday?
Is time humanity question some of the stuffs we hold so dear and ask for its impacts in our lives. An idea that was initiated over thousands of years ago cannot be relevant in ever changing world.
If Christmas was a time to rejoice and reflect about the birth of Jesus Christ by early Christians, do you think that 21 century Christians think in that direction? Is it no a period some con artiste (Pastors) use to organize conventions to milk their congregations?
We have similar period of mass return in different traditional settings, especially the New yam festival among the Igbos, why is that heritage dying? Some parts of Ghana celebrate yam too.
Christmas might be a period of fun, but the present means and methods use in celebrating Xmas is stressful and worrisome. The quest for it has landed many youth in trouble. is time to rethink that season.
Calabar carnival is one of the biggest Xmas event in Nigeria. We can develop others and make good use of Xmas. Lets make Xmas period a season for cultural celebrations in this part of the world.
Have a fruitful and blissful January.
