The Chief Imam of Ijebuland, Sheikh Muftaudeen Ayanbadejo, has announced new dress code and conduct regulations for worshippers attending Jumat prayers, barring men with plaited hair and those wearing earrings from entering the mosque for the weekly congregational prayer.

The directive was reportedly announced during the Jumat service on Friday, October 9, 2026, as part of efforts to promote discipline, decency and reverence within the mosque.

According to the announcement, the restrictions will take effect on Friday, October 16, 2026, giving worshippers one week to familiarise themselves with the new rules and make the necessary adjustments.

In addition to the appearance-related restrictions, Sheikh Ayanbadejo warned worshippers against using mobile phones during prayers. He reportedly stated that any worshipper caught operating a mobile phone while prayers are ongoing would have the device seized immediately.

The warning highlights the importance of maintaining concentration and avoiding distractions during congregational worship.

The newly announced regulations are expected to spark discussions within the Muslim community regarding personal grooming, appropriate appearance and standards of conduct in places of worship.

Prominent Burkinabè Sunni Islamic scholar, Dr. Mohammed Ishaq Kindo, reportedly remains in detention following his arrest on May 26, 2026, despite the release of nearly 100 of his supporters who were detained after protests in the country’s capital, Ouagadougou.

According to reports from Burkinabè media, the supporters were released on October 4, 2026, after being detained in connection with demonstrations that followed the scholar’s arrest.

However, as of October 6, 2026, there has been no official announcement confirming Dr. Kindo’s release, and reports indicate that he remains in custody.

The Federation of Islamic Associations of Burkina Faso (FAIB) confirmed his arrest on May 26 and appealed to Muslim faithful to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information.
