PRESS RELEASE: 5th August, 2026.
RUMUOLUMENI SHOOTING: OSPAC CONDEMNS CULT-RELATED DISTURBANCE, HANDS TWO MEMBERS OVER TO POLICE.
The leadership of Rumuolumeni OSPAC, led by *Comrade, Kenneth Olumeni*, has strongly condemned the recent shooting incident that disrupted the peace of Rumuolumeni Community, declaring that the community security outfit will never provide protection or support for cultism, criminality or any activity capable of endangering residents.
Preliminary information surrounding the incident indicates that suspected members of the Vikings Confraternity had allegedly gathered in connection with a leadership transition within the group when the situation resulted in sporadic gunfire, causing tension and fear among residents.
The Rumuolumeni OSPAC leadership described the development as unacceptable and a direct threat to the peace and security of the community.
Following preliminary inquiries into the incident, allegations emerged that two members of Rumuolumeni OSPAC may have acted independently by allegedly providing cover to individuals connected with the incident.
The leadership has consequently handed the two members concerned over to the Nigeria Police Force for questioning and proper investigation.
Rumuolumeni OSPAC stressed that the decision demonstrates its commitment to accountability and its determination not to shield any member suspected of acting outside the organisation's mandate.
The security outfit maintained that no individual, regardless of position or membership, would be protected from lawful investigation where allegations of misconduct or collaboration with criminal elements arise.
The leadership stated unequivocally that Rumuolumeni OSPAC, under Comrade Kenneth Olumeni, had no prior knowledge of any alleged arrangement between the two members and suspected cultists and neither authorised nor sanctioned such conduct.
Any action allegedly undertaken by the two members was therefore not an official operation, directive or decision of the Rumuolumeni OSPAC leadership.
“We want to make our position absolutely clear: our responsibility is to maintain peace, protect lives and property and support lawful efforts to secure Rumuolumeni. We were established to fight crime, not to aid crime.
“We will never knowingly provide protection, cover or assistance to cultists or criminal elements. Any member found, after proper investigation, to have betrayed the confidence placed in our security organisation must face the consequences of his individual actions in accordance with the law.”
The leadership therefore completely dissociated Rumuolumeni OSPAC from the alleged actions of the two members and pledged full cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force in establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Rumuolumeni OSPAC further warned that the peace and security of the community must not be compromised by cult-related activities, internal disputes or the actions of individuals seeking to create fear among residents.
The leadership maintained that anybody attempting to disturb the peace of Rumuolumeni must be prepared to face lawful security action irrespective of their connections or affiliations.
The security outfit has meanwhile reassured residents that it remains committed to the protection of lives and property and will continue working with the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security authorities to maintain peace and prevent further disturbances.
Residents were urged to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding and to promptly provide useful information to the appropriate security authorities whenever suspicious activities are observed.
