At the 10th China (Beijing) Military Intelligent Technology Expo 2025, China unveiled advanced bird-mimicking drones called ornithopters, designed to imitate real birds’ wing-flapping flight.
These drones, ranging from small 90-gram magpie-like models to larger eagle variants with offensive capabilities, offer stealthy reconnaissance, infiltration, and strike functions that evade visual and radar detection.
The smallest ornithopters carry micro cameras for urban surveillance and operate in swarms for persistent situational awareness, while larger drones can carry precision-guided munitions and sustain flights up to 40 minutes within a 3 to 5 miles radius.
