NEW YORK, 20 November 2025
More than 1 in 5 children in low- and middle-income countries or 417 million are severely deprived in at least two vital areas critical for their health, development, and wellbeing, according to UNICEF’s flagship report issued on World Children’s Day today.

This is not what we need to take for granted because, in one way or the order, it will directly or indirectly affect us and our children.

Successful Solar Skills Acquisition Program

The Solar Skills Acquisition Program was a resounding success, empowering young individuals with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in solar energy installation and system design. Despite the modest learning environment, the participants demonstrated exceptional commitment, focus, and passion throughout the training.

From classroom theory to real-world applications, trainees engaged actively learning how to size solar panels, calculate load requirements, and assemble complete solar systems. Their enthusiasm reflected a deep understanding of the importance of renewable energy in driving sustainable development and bridging the electricity gap in local communities.

One remarkable highlight of the program was the passion and seriousness shown by the candidates. Their eagerness to learn, ask questions, and apply every concept practically proved that with the right guidance and determination, capacity can thrive even in limited conditions.

This initiative not only built technical competence but also aligned with SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) providing youths with employable skills, promoting green energy adoption, and fostering community development.

The program stands as a model of youth empowerment, innovation, and resilience a strong testament that skills, not circumstance, define success.

DEEN BLACK: Why Bring Davido to Adamawa When Our People Are Suffering

I don’t know who is behind this decision, but it doesn’t sit well with me that Davido is being brought to Adamawa for a show. Personally, I can’t see how this will have any real impact on the lives of our people.

Millions of naira will be spent today while there are sick people lying in hospital beds and countless orphans roaming the streets as school dropouts.

I may not be an expert in mathematics, but let’s be honest — fifty million naira or more will be spent on this event for nothing meaningful in return. Do you know what fifty million naira could do?

Fifty million naira could send ten thousand orphans back to school and help pay the medical bills of over one thousand patients who currently have no financial support.

Honestly, I want to ask who exactly is behind bringing Davido here, because I have serious questions for them. They are going to spend hundreds of millions flying in celebrities and putting up a show, yet there are patients dying because they can’t afford treatment.

This is not about Davido as an artist. It is about priorities and leadership. When will we start investing in people instead of entertainment that brings no lasting value to our communities?

Adamawa deserves better.

When Leadership Fails Humanity

The moment we realize we have failed as a nation is when our leaders begin to show inequality, tribalism, and a lack of concern for vital sectors such as education, healthcare, human capital development, and infrastructure.

What truly makes us humane is how we sustain the tools that stabilize our health and wellbeing. A community without a well-equipped healthcare center is like being stranded in a desert without access to water — the most basic means of survival.

This is the painful reality of Osato Community, located in Kwamba, down Hallmark School, Suleja. The neglect of this basic health center reflects the lack of concern from political leaders, who often dismiss the area as being occupied by “visitors” — locally referred to as “yan bayan gari.”

The community has a large population but lacks basic amenities such as clean water, good roads, and electricity. Many residents — especially women and children — walk 2 to 3 kilometers just to fetch drinking water.

It is time to raise our voices for Kwamba Community.
Let’s speak for those unheard.

The strike exposes many personal flaws, such as a lack of skills. A student without practical skills often spends the entire period at home without engaging in any meaningful activity. While the strike reveals these weaknesses, it also creates room for immoral behaviors such as teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, and theft.
