NIPR Abia, Disability Commission Push for Inclusive Communication,Stronger Social Impact.
The Abia State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusion, ethical communication, and social development through stronger collaboration with the Abia State Disability Commission in driving social change in the state.
The Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Abia State Chapter, Onyinye Ralph-Nwachukwu, fnipr, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Persons with Disabilities and Chairman of the Abia State Disability Commission, Hon. David Anyaele, where discussions centered on advocacy, awareness creation, accessibility, and the role of communication in building a more inclusive society.
The Chairman described the interaction as both significant and inspiring, noting that the chapter was proud to identify with one of its members who continues to make meaningful impact in governance and social advocacy.
She commended Hon. Anyaele for his consistency, courage, and commitment towards advancing the rights and visibility of persons with disabilities in Abia State.
According to her, 'Inclusive leadership and responsible communication remain essential in shaping a society where every citizen, regardless of physical condition, is given equal opportunity to contribute and thrive'.
The Chairman further noted that communication professionals have a major role to play in changing harmful narratives, combating stereotypes, and promoting empathy, acceptance, and accessibility across society.
'We must continue to use communication as a tool for social change, policy advocacy, and human development. A society becomes stronger when no one is excluded from opportunities and conversations that shape the future,' she added.
Responding, Hon. David Anyaele appreciated the leadership of the institute for the visit and expressed confidence in the ability of current leadership of NIPR in the State, to help drive advocacy and public enlightenment on disability issues.
“I am going to support you and your administration because Public Relations must continue to grow in Abia State. I also want us to build a partnership between NIPR and the Disability Commission that will help amplify advocacy for persons with disabilities” he stated.
Hon. Anyaele noted that before the administration of Governor Alex Otti, the South East was often considered one of the most challenging regions for persons with disabilities due to discrimination and societal misconceptions.
“Many people never believed that persons with disabilities could occupy sensitive positions or aspire to leadership. But today, that narrative is changing gradually through advocacy, awareness, and inclusive governance”
he said.
He further stressed the need for stronger institutional collaboration, strategic communication, and sustained public education to promote inclusion and equal opportunities.
