πΉ CCTV EDUCATION: WHERE SHOULD YOU INSTALL YOUR CCTV CAMERAS?
Many people think that installing CCTV simply means buying cameras and fixing them on the walls. But there is much more to a good CCTV installation than that.
The position of your camera is just as important as the camera itself.
You can have an excellent CCTV camera, but if it is positioned incorrectly, you may still miss important events.
Here are some important things to consider when positioning CCTV cameras:
1οΈβ£ COVER YOUR MAIN ENTRANCES
Your main entrance, gate, back door and other access points are some of the first places you should consider when planning CCTV coverage.
The camera should be positioned in a way that allows you to clearly monitor people entering and leaving the property.
2οΈβ£ REDUCE BLIND SPOTS
A blind spot is an area that your camera cannot properly see.
Before permanently fixing a camera, check its viewing angle carefully. Walls, pillars, roofs, trees and other structures can block part of the camera's view.
Sometimes, adding another camera or changing the position of an existing one can provide much better coverage.
3οΈβ£ CHOOSE THE RIGHT MOUNTING HEIGHT
A CCTV camera should normally be installed high enough to make easy tampering more difficult, while still allowing the camera to capture useful details.
Installing a camera extremely high does not automatically mean better security. The viewing angle and the details you need to capture must also be considered.
4οΈβ£ WATCH OUT FOR GLARE AND BACKLIGHT
Be careful when pointing cameras directly toward strong sunlight, bright security lights or other powerful light sources.
Depending on the camera and lighting conditions, excessive glare or backlighting can affect the quality of the image and make important details harder to see.
5οΈβ£ CONSIDER INDOOR AREAS
CCTV should not only be about the outside of a building.
Depending on the purpose of the security system, important indoor areas may include entrances, corridors, reception areas, cash points, storage rooms and other places where movement needs to be monitored.
6οΈβ£ THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO CAPTURE
Before installing any camera, ask yourself:
π What area do I need to monitor?
π Who or what do I need to identify?
π Is there any blind spot?
π Will lighting affect the image?
π Is the camera positioned correctly for the job?
A professional CCTV installation should be planned around the property and the customer's security needsβnot simply around where it is easiest to mount a camera.
π REMEMBER:
GOOD CCTV = GOOD CAMERA + GOOD POSITIONING.
Having many cameras does not necessarily mean having good coverage. Proper planning and correct positioning are what help turn cameras into an effective surveillance system.
At U-NetConnection, we believe that security installation should be properly planned, installed and understood.
