*LET'S LEARN THE COMMUNICATION/MARKETING LESSONS FROM AMVCA 2024*
1) Uniqueness and consistency pay: See Layi Wasabi, our intelligent and different skit maker. His usual skits are devoid of preaching lewdness and prostitution. They only showed us societal ills without giving us all the details.
At a point, I unfollowed every skit maker because every content seemed to be highly laced with women’s bodies on display and soft p**n. I initially thought it was largely due to their immoral and parental upbringing. Later, a famous skit maker mentioned they do that because the internet algorithm makes your content go viral when it senses women dressed in transparent outfits or picks voluptuous women displaying endowments.
Layi did not put this algorithm and “everything to go viral” first. As a trained lawyer, he goes ahead to do what he is most comfortable with. Be unique, creative, and consistent.
2) Intensively work hard on what you can control: Funke Akindele’s A Tribe Called Judah grossed more than two billion naira in a couple of months at the cinema but won nothing at the AMVCA 2024. Funke is not capable of directly controlling the winner of the award. Luckily, she was in control of intensively marketing her movie and guess what? She got massive results from that!
3) The skill and the business of the skills are two different things: Before AMVCA 2024, a lot of people had not heard about Breath of Life which packed most of the awards. Before AMVCA, Funke Akindele made sure her Tribe Called Judah got everywhere. People who already watched it testified it is the best thing after sliced bread and that they proudly chose it over Funke Akindele’s A Tribe Called Judah. Funke Akindele did not only show her skill by producing a movie; she also understood the business of her skill and leveraged that to rake sales in billions! The skills/expertise/certifications are useful for awards, ovation by few expert bodies, etc. but combining it with the business sides will give bigger results. Just imagine an intensive marketing campaign also went into Breath of Life! So as you plan to show excellence with your products and services, do not forget to make the world hear about them through effective communication and intentional marketing.
