We know all too well how drones are used in conflict and violence.

Today, on International Drone Day, we also appreciate their positive, functional, and even inspiring applications: to transport lifesaving medicines quickly between cities, to inspect high places, to train, and to see the world from a different angle.

This is our training location at Klooster Nieuw Sion, seen from above. Where we train NGO staff how to deal with drones in conflict zones but also secretly enjoy the magnificent views from our drones.

Vorige week zijn de Olympische Winterspelen 2026 officieel beรซindigd.

Our Local page is LIVE! ๐Ÿ”ด

Our website highlights our international work, but did you know that we are also active within the broader Benelux region? Organizations who meet us during trainings in this region are sometimes surprised to learn that we operate close to home as well.

Our Benelux partnerships span a wide range of sectors: civil society organizations, educational institutions, municipal bodies, and various community-focused initiatives.

By sharing more about our regional involvement, we aim to provide clarity: the reason you may encounter us in a Dutch training or project is simpleโ€”we are trusted locally, as well as internationally. Our work in the Benelux is an important part of what we do, and it strengthens the global perspective we bring to every assignment.

Travelling all over the world, our teams always come back home to our training base in the Netherlands! And during the last HEATs our base was a fairytale. This is the base today with a fresh layer of snow!

Luckily our participants were well prepared for this volatile environment.

Do you want to know more about our HEAT courses (also in hotter circumstances)? Please email [email protected], or visit or website: www.globalriskadvice.com.

Staying effective in a changing risk landscape means never standing still.

At Global Risk Advice, we continuously update our knowledge and skills. Yesterday, our team spent the day refreshing first aid competencies and delving deeper into the latest developments around drones and their uses in conflict and other settings and their impact on NGO-presence worldwide.

Why? So we can best serve, equip, and prepare the NGO staff we train across the globe. By staying current, we ensure our trainings are practical, relevant, and grounded in todayโ€™s realities โ€” helping humanitarian teams operate more safely and confidently wherever they work.

Learning, adapting, and sharing knowledge helps us to help you.

As many of our past participants will recognize, at the end of our trainings, we usually ask each participant to tell us in two words "how was your training?" The collection of words that come from these after every training are always inspiring to read and reflect on.

As we look back on this year, we are grateful for the opportunity to train and support hundreds of NGO staffโ€”both locally and across the globe. From the Netherlands and Belgium to Ukraine, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Germany, Sweden, Uganda, and beyond, we stood alongside dedicated professionals committed to making a difference.

Throughout the year, we also supported organizations through a wide range of security and monitoring consultancies, and worked closely with local schools and institutions to strengthen their capacity in de-escalation and crisis management. We also celebrated the achievements of our own colleagues who completed educational courses, studies, and trainingsโ€”continuing to grow our internal expertise so we can better empower others in their mission to bring hope where itโ€™s needed most.

Last, but certainly not least, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all our partners for their trust and continued support. It has been an honor to serve as your security partner, and we look forward to all that the new year will bring.

From all of us at Global Risk Advice, a very happy holidays!

Travelling through remote and challenging areas, the chances are high that you will end up being stopped at a checkpoint. Whether this is just a rope on a dirt road, a few pilons, sandbags and barriers, or an extensive bordercrossing, you will encounter authorities wanting to check you, your fellow passengers and the car itself.

Knowing how to behave in these situations and what (not) to do, is part of most of our security trainings, such as our Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT). Preparing yourself or your staff to go through these events safely is a necessary skill for you to operate in conflict- and disaster zones as a humanitarian aid worker.

We are working in most countries in the world and have several training bases on multiple continents. We would love to welcome you there!

๐Ÿ“… Mark your calendars! Global Risk Advice will be attending AidEx - The Global Humanitarian Aid Community taking place this year in Geneva on 22-23 October.

"AidEx explores solution oriented and innovative approaches, as well as systemic changes needed for a sustainable and effective crisis response in the conference agenda and exhibition. The humanitarian system is creaking, overwhelmed by overlapping crises and funding shortages exacerbated by the USAID dissolution and cuts to other public donor funding, making adaptation critical to address todayโ€™s challenges."

If you or your organization are attending, please meet up with us there and find out how we can support your organization and explore opportunities to bridge the different crises impacting NGOs worldwide.

Drones have become an integral part of contemporary conflict zones. Ukraine has become the new frontier on drone development but also other conflicts all around the world are increasingly shaped by drones.

This affects aid workers as well: what could and should be done by humanitarian aid organizations to keep their staff safe against drones? What can aid workers do if they are travelling in areas where (kamikaze) drones are used? Questions that require answers.

Besides supporting NGOs on their drone policy and protocols, we also provide trainings on how to deal with drones as an organization.

For more information, please contact us via our website or on [email protected]. We are happy to assist you in your search for answers!

The summer period for security- and crisis managers is always different: sometimes it is very quiet, because everyone is having their holidays and sometimes it is very turbulent, because everyone left for holidays!

This year was no different: several crisis responses, several HEAT courses in the Netherlands and Ukraine, and some tailormade crisis management- and personal security courses on e.g. Sudan and Nigeria.

Amazing to see that on training already, only in the first two to three weeks, over one hundred (!) people were trained and that several of our teams will soon leave the Netherlands again to provide other courses abroad!
