Tijdens deze dag nemen experts van onder meer Global Risk Advice je mee in thema’s als risico, veiligheid en preventie. Mensen die zelf in het buitenland hebben gewerkt, delen hun ervaringen met het omgaan met politieke spanningen, conflicten en sociale onrust. Ook krijg je tips van organisaties die zorg dragen voor missionair werkers.

Daarnaast neemt Marcel van 't Hul je mee in de wereld van TeamNL. Vanuit een verrassende invalshoek ontdek je wat teams rond missionair werkers kunnen leren van teams die rond topsporters staan. Met waardevolle lessen over begeleiding, veiligheid, ontwikkeling en ondersteuning.

During recent work in Ukraine and conversations with humanitarian organizations operating in high-risk environments, one topic keeps returning: drones. From Ukraine to Sudan and beyond, the widespread use of drones is creating new challenges for humanitarian access, staff safety, acceptance, and security risk management.

The question is no longer whether drones will affect humanitarian operations, but whether we are adapting quickly enough.

Ukraine continues to face enormous humanitarian and security challenges. During our recent visit, we had the privilege of supporting humanitarian efforts and advising NGOs on how to manage risks and operate safely in an evolving conflict environment.

Travelling through areas such as Kherson Oblast, the scale of destruction is immediately apparent. But so too is the commitment to recovery.

The demining activities shown in this video are a powerful example. Before reconstruction can take place, land must first be made safe. Each cleared field and each removed explosive hazard brings communities one step closer to rebuilding their future.

Recovery is a long process, but it is already underway.

We know all too well how drones are used in conflict and violence.

Today, on International Drone Day, we also appreciate their positive, functional, and even inspiring applications: to transport lifesaving medicines quickly between cities, to inspect high places, to train, and to see the world from a different angle.

This is our training location at Klooster Nieuw Sion, seen from above. Where we train NGO staff how to deal with drones in conflict zones but also secretly enjoy the magnificent views from our drones.
