During Dutch Design Week | DDW, Foundation We Are becomes a sanctuary of sound and whispers, a listening bar dressed as a chapel. Curtains drape the perimeter, smoke crawls the floor, candles flicker, and scents of milk, wood, frankincense, and myrrh hang in the air. A fountain pours. A confessional waits.

This is an event slowed to a ritual. Step in lightly.

Two weeks ago, we had the pleasure of opening our new exhibition, The Collective Response – Design for Shared Action. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us to celebrate this moment. The exhibition runs until 3 January 2027 and is also open to visitors during Dutch Design Week | DDW.

Dutch Design Week | DDW is coming up soon and with it, a new edition of our Common Grounds event series on 24th of October.

"Sanctuary of Sound and Whispers" transforms a listening bar into a chapel of sound: a space where the communal energy of a bar meets the intimacy of listening. As the pace of Dutch Design Week builds, step inside for a ritualistic pause, to listen, connect, move and simply be.

The evening begins with participatory soundscapes, followed by a live performance and possibly spoken word, music or dance. As the night unfolds, curated vinyl and DJ sets take over, creating a soft yet engaging atmosphere for conversation, movement and unexpected encounters. Come as you are. Stay for the sound.

One of the guiding ideas behind Foundation We Are is that it is an open space for people to come together, whether through our co-working space (The Village), the Community Square café, the events we organise, the programmes and workshops we host, or our regularly changing exhibitions.

We see the space as something shaped by the people around us, with each unexpected encounter and collaboration becoming part of what Foundation We Are is.

That’s why we are especially excited to open our doors again to everyone from Eindhoven and beyond to celebrate the opening of our next exhibition “The Collective Response – Design for Shared Action”.

Join us this Friday, 18 September, at 18:00 to celebrate this opening with us. We would love to see you there!

YAMUNA FORZANI is an artist and activist. She aims to create a q***r utopia that celebrates her community and includes them in her creative work. Her practice often involves textiles, and she collaborates with other artists and designers. She organises events, dance performances, and creates fashion, costumes, public art, and installations.

We often remember communities through celebrations, but they also depend on quieter acts of care: helping a friend move, cooking for each other, volunteering, sharing knowledge, or simply showing up. These everyday gestures require time, energy, and effort, but they form the foundation of strong communities.

In today’s world, where isolation is increasingly normalised and convenience often replaces togetherness, her work wants to make rest a collective act. Taking time to pause together becomes an opportunity to reflect on our own role as a “villager” and how caring for one another is essential to be able to imagine more connected futures.

Our democracy is under pressure. Populism and polarisation are growing increasingly, and more people are losing trust in politics, democracy, and a collective future. We need a unifying approach to long-term issues, like climate change, rapid technological development, housing shortages, and aging populations.

A solution to this is citizens’ assemblies by Bureau Burgerberaad, an independent non-profit supporting governments, professionals, and citizens. They bring together a diverse group of people, everyday people with different views and interests, not running for election. Together, they learn, discuss, and develop fair approaches for complex issues. They help politicians tackle today’s major challenges, resulting in a stronger, more resilient democracy. Over a thousand assemblies have taken place worldwide, showing that democracy is not about winning elections but about building the future together.

Tessel Brühl is a designer, educator and a part of Questions Collective. She specialises in making complex issues tangible and accessible through clothing, textile installations, and education.

„My Body is a Battleship“ is a physical object which reminds us that our bodies, whether consciously or subconsciously, are capable of fighting against inequality. You are invited to prepare for battle. Battles for gender equality, against polarisation, or anything else that divides us.

We carry our bodies with us throughout our lifetimes. They adapt with us through changes, protests, love, and care. In this work, Tessel makes the body larger than life and brightly colored. She uses bold representations to make sexuality visible instead of neutral. While non-binary or “neutral” representations can hide sexuality, she looks for ways to help the body claim space.
