Our iOS developer, Alexey Antonov, was invited to speak at NSSpain XIV 2026, currently taking place from 16 to 18 September 2026 in Logroño, Spain.

NSSpain is a long-running international conference for Apple developers, bringing together experienced professionals from across the Apple ecosystem.

Alex's presentation, “How to Prepare Your iOS SaMD for FDA Submission,” shared practical lessons from our own experience developing an iOS application as Software as a Medical Device (SaMD). The session covered the documentation, Quality Management System (QMS), testing strategy, and privacy and security controls our team has implemented as we advance BlinkLab Dx1 toward FDA 510(k) submission.

On August 28, BlinkLab welcomed the Hon Stephen Dawson MLC, Western Australia’s Minister for Science and Innovation and Medical Research, to our office in Leiden, the Netherlands. He was joined by Rebeka Marton, Chief of Staff, and Rebecca Tomkinson, Agent General for Western Australia in the UK and Europe.

We discussed the future of medtech and digital health in Western Australia, opportunities within WA’s clinical research ecosystem, and how BlinkLab could establish a meaningful presence there, including the potential for Western Australia to become one of our Australian clinical and research hubs.

The conversation also covered changes to the NDIS, long assessment waitlists, and how technology could help expand access to autism and ADHD assessment, particularly in regional and underserved communities.

Thank you to Minister Dawson, Ms Marton, and Ms Tomkinson for visiting us and for such an engaging discussion. We look forward to continuing the conversation.

Software as a Medical Device 📱

Not all healthcare apps are medical devices. Software as a Medical Device, or SaMD, is software designed to perform a medical function without being part of a hardware medical device.

Because it is not tied to dedicated hardware, it can run on a smartphone, tablet, or computer. In other words, the medical function is performed by the software itself, while the device serves as the platform on which it runs.

Smartphone-based SaMD is the type of technology BlinkLab is developing. Because SaMD is intended for medical purposes, it must meet applicable medical device requirements and, where required, undergo regulatory review.

Why are early identification and support important?

Identifying developmental differences early can help families better understand their child’s needs and access further evaluation, guidance, and appropriate support sooner.

In the United States, routine developmental screening is recommended at specific stages of early childhood to help identify whether further evaluation or support may be needed.

With support tailored to their individual needs, every child can have more opportunities to flourish. 🌸

BlinkLab recently welcomed Dr. Raphael Bernier, faculty member at the University of Washington and an internationally recognized expert in autism research and clinical care, for an informal conversation with the team.

Drawing on decades of experience, Dr. Bernier shared insights on how the field has evolved over the past three decades, the challenges that remain, and the importance of continuing to improve support for individuals and families.

Among the topics explored were the evolving meaning and role of an autism diagnosis for both clinicians and families, the heterogeneity within the diagnosis, and the integration of the BlinkLab app into clinical workflows.

🤔 Could BlinkLab’s test feel stressful for my child?

During the test, your child will hear brief unexpected sounds. These sounds are included intentionally to evoke natural reflexes. They may cause slight discomfort or mild stress.

At the same time, BlinkLab’s test features engaging children’s videos, can be taken at home, and is quick to complete. This helps make the overall experience more comfortable and manageable 🧸

BlinkLab visited Tangier, Morocco, to support the launch of a nationwide autism screening program in collaboration with the Moroccan Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the Mohammed VI National Center for the Disabled (CNMH).

During the visit, the team met with Ministry and CNMH representatives to better understand their current autism screening program and explain how BlinkLab’s assessment may complement their standard evaluation process.

The visit highlighted Morocco’s strong commitment to advancing autism care and gave BlinkLab the opportunity to experience the country’s warmth and hospitality.
