Birthday time!

Wilhelmsen is 162 years old today, on 1 October. Founded by Wilhelm Wilhelmsen in Tønsberg, Norway in 1861, we have come a long way since then.

As the shaper of the maritime industry, we continue to grow and expand.

With 162 years, what better way to celebrate than using 162 images to tell our story so far in the video below. Enjoy!

As part of our annual tradition, our summer interns presented their findings from their internship with our management team as well as a live presentation for the global organisation.

Over the course of an intensive six-week period, these interns delved into the many problem statements of circular economy. With a field trip to Slovakia, they also gained hands-on experience from our TIMM ropes factory.

Here's to a job exceptionally well done! 🙌🏽⚓️

Our summer interns are soon heading off to some well-deserved vacation after completing the first half of their summer with Wilhelmsen. We have five students this year working on a highly relevant problem statement related to circular economy.

With educational backgrounds from several of the major campuses in Norway, this inter-disciplinary team are working together to extend the lifetime of materials (i.e. ropes) by recycling, remaking, and re-using them as secondary products. The students will complete the project with a group-wide presentation in late august, and we can’t wait to share their findings with you.

⚓️Happy Day of the Seafarer⚓️

25th of June marks the IMO's annual Day of the Seafarer, and this year we highlight seafarers’ contribution to the safety of ships and protection of the marine environment.

Every day, hundreds of thousands of seafarers are underway on vessels, playing a vital role in global trade, transporting cargo, and ensuring passengers reach their destinations safely. As the maritime industry continuously works towards making shipping more environmentally sound and sustainable, seafarers play an increasingly important role in helping to protect the health of our ocean.

At Wilhelmsen, we are committed to promoting gender equality through our policies, practices, and global initiatives. Securing an inspiring and engaging work environment where our employees can do their best and live up to the standards in our governing elements, requires a lot from our team.

In line with our commitment, our leaders embark on a comprehensive leadership development journey, which includes dedicated learning modules. For the year 2023, these modules will specifically focus on equality, diversity, and inclusion, further reinforcing our dedication to creating a safe and encouraging workplace.

As we celebrate the IMO International Day for Women in Maritime, let us continue to mobilise networks for gender equality and work towards a more diverse and inclusive maritime industry. Together, we can create a workplace where all individuals, regardless of gender, can thrive and succeed.
