The World’s Best Taekwondo Academy for Children
I genuinely believe that Choi Gang Taekwondo is one of the finest Taekwondo academies for children.
Master Lee Han Eol, the owner and head instructor, trains children and young students with an extraordinary amount of care, patience, and genuine affection. What makes him truly exceptional, however, is not only the quality of his training, but the respect, fairness, and dignity with which he treats every child.
I have personally experienced several Taekwondo academies in the surrounding area, including some of the most well-known and highly regarded ones. The contrast was striking.
At some of those academies, children were expected to wear clothing and caps displaying the academy’s logo and telephone number, and to carry promotional bags. On occasions when children did not wear or carry these items, the instructor could become visibly angry. To me, this made the children feel less like young students being educated and more like walking advertisements for the academy.
Even more concerning was the disciplinary atmosphere I witnessed in some places. Young children were sometimes made to kneel, reprimanded harshly for very minor mistakes, or embarrassed in front of their classmates. Such experiences can be particularly difficult for children, who are still developing their confidence, sense of dignity, and relationship with authority.
This is precisely why my experience at Choi Gang Taekwondo has been so meaningful.
Master Lee has never treated children in this way. He does not use them to promote his academy, nor does he make their clothing or appearance a measure of their commitment. Children can come to training with or without their Dobok, and they are welcomed and treated with the same respect.
Most importantly, I have never seen Master Lee use humiliation, unreasonable punishment, favoritism, or personal errands as a means of controlling his students. Instead, he teaches through patience, consistency, encouragement, and genuine attention to each child.
That difference may seem simple, but for a child, it is profound.
A Taekwondo master is not merely teaching kicks, punches, discipline, or physical strength. He is also teaching children how authority should be exercised, how mistakes should be handled, and how one human being should treat another.
Master Lee does not need to boast about his educational philosophy. His everyday conduct demonstrates it.
His fairness,
His respect,
His patience are a lesson.
And the way he treats children is, in itself, a lesson in character.
For these reasons, I have enormous respect for Master Lee Han Eol and Choi Gang Taekwondo. In my experience, this is what a truly excellent Taekwondo academy for children should look like.
