In a well-known authentic hadith (Sahih Muslim), the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ narrated that Iblis (Satan) places his throne upon the waters and sends out his detachments to cause discord. When an evil agent returns saying, 'I did not leave a couple until I separated them,' Iblis draws him close and crowns him, saying, 'You have done well!'

Why does Shaitan prioritize the collapse of marriages above almost everything else? Because the family unit is the foundational brick of a healthy, God-conscious society. When a marriage fractures, children suffer, emotional stability crumbles, communities weaken, and the door to bitterness and spiritual disillusionment swings wide open.

In Islamic jurisprudence, the Nikah serves as the legal framework establishing mutual rights and responsibilities. However, reducing marriage to a sterile exchange of contractual obligations strips away its divine purpose. Allah SWT describes marriage as a sacred covenant (Mithaqan Ghalidha), an emotional and spiritual sanctuary built on shared faith, sacrifice, and growth.

When couples approach matrimony strictly as a ledger of 'what are you giving me vs. what do I owe you,' resentment and emotional distance inevitably take root. The Quranic paradigm calls for entering marriage with the intention of cultivating tranquility (Sakina), deep affection (Mawaddah), and tender mercy (Rahmah). It is an act of worship (Ibadah) and companionship designed to draw both partners closer to their Creator.
