The Improved Cooking Stove (ICS) distribution program was successfully implemented in the Chepang community of Rapti Municipality–10 to promote clean energy, reduce indoor air pollution, improve public health, and protect the environment. Conducted under the Youth-Led Initiative, the project is expected to benefit 225 people. Baseline air quality monitoring recorded alarming levels of PM₂.₅ (up to 1200 µg/m³) and CO₂ (2200 ppm). The improved stoves are expected to reduce firewood consumption by 60%, cooking time by 50%, and smoke exposure, particularly for women and children. Post-installation monitoring will scientifically evaluate the project's impact on indoor air quality and health.

चेपाङ समुदायमा सुधारिएको चुलो वितरण सम्पन्न

राप्ती नगरपालिका–१० को चेपाङ समुदायमा स्वच्छ ऊर्जा प्रवर्द्धन, घरभित्रको वायु प्रदूषण न्यूनीकरण तथा स्वास्थ्य सुधारका लागि सुधारिएको चुलो वितरण कार्यक्रम सफलतापूर्वक सम्पन्न भएको छ।

युथ लिड इनिसिएटिभअन्तर्गत सञ्चालन गरिएको यस कार्यक्रममार्फत करिब २२५ जना प्रत्यक्ष/अप्रत्यक्ष रूपमा लाभान्वित हुने अपेक्षा गरिएको छ।

कार्यक्रमअन्तर्गत चुलो वितरणअघि प्रत्येक घरमा घरभित्रको वायु गुणस्तर (Baseline Study) मापन गरिएको छ, जसमा PM2.5, CO₂, तापक्रम, आर्द्रता लगायतका सूचकहरूको तथ्याङ्क संकलन गरिएको छ। केही समयपछि पुनः मापन गरी सुधारिएको चुलोको प्रभावलाई वैज्ञानिक रूपमा मूल्याङ्कन गरिनेछ।

यस पहलले दाउराको खपत घटाउने, घरभित्रको धुवाँ कम गर्ने, स्वास्थ्य जोखिम न्यूनीकरण गर्ने, वन संरक्षणमा योगदान पुर्‍याउने तथा स्वच्छ ऊर्जाको प्रयोगलाई प्रवर्द्धन गर्ने अपेक्षा गरिएको छ।

Improved Cooking Stove Distribution for Healthier Homes and Cleaner Air

We are delighted to begin the distribution of Improved Cooking Stoves (ICS) to households in the Chepang community as part of our initiative to promote clean cooking, healthier living, and environmental sustainability.

Traditional cooking methods often expose families especially women, children, and the elderly to harmful indoor air pollution. Through this initiative, we aim to provide a cleaner, safer, and more efficient cooking solution that supports both household well-being and environmental protection.

Expected Outcomes

1. Reduced indoor air pollution (PM2.5, CO₂, and other pollutants)
2. Improved respiratory health and overall well-being of household members
3. Reduced firewood consumption and lower cooking costs
4. Decreased greenhouse gas emissions and reduced pressure on local forests

Monitoring Our Impact

Before distributing the stoves, we conducted a comprehensive baseline survey and collected indoor air quality data from participating households. After several months of stove use, we will carry out a post-distribution assessment to evaluate the project's impact by comparing changes in:

Indoor air quality (PM2.5, CO₂, and other environmental parameters)
Fuel consumption
Cooking practices
User satisfaction and stove adoption
Health-related experiences of household members

The results will help us understand the effectiveness of improved cooking stoves and provide valuable evidence for scaling up clean cooking initiatives in other communities.

Baseline Survey Completed for the Improved Cooking Stove Project

We have successfully completed the baseline household survey in the project area as the first step toward implementing our Improved Cooking Stove (ICS) initiative.

Our survey covered 25 households (10% sample size), with the majority (84%) belonging to the Chepang caste. We also gathered information on household demographics and current cooking practices. The findings show that many families continue to cook inside their living spaces, highlighting the need for cleaner and healthier cooking solutions.

This baseline data will help us measure the impact of improved cooking stoves on indoor air quality, health, and household well-being. It also serves as an important foundation for monitoring changes throughout the project.

Today, our team conducted a field survey on Improved Cooking Stoves (ICS) to better understand household cooking practices, fuel use, and the benefits of clean cooking technologies.

By engaging directly with community members, we gathered valuable insights into how improved cooking stoves can reduce indoor air pollution, save fuel and time, improve health, and contribute to environmental sustainability. These findings will help guide future initiatives toward promoting safer, cleaner, and more efficient cooking solutions.
