It has been revealed that Kumar Ben Byanjankar, the chief advisor to B***n Shah, was previously arrested by Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) during an operation targeting a Bangladeshi syndicate involved in illegal call bypass (VoIP) activities in Nepal.
Following a rise in illegal call bypass incidents in Nepal since 2009, the CIB had launched a special operation named “Voice Fox” in 2010 in coordination with telecommunication service providers. At the time, Bangladesh’s military had also intensified operations against organized VoIP crime networks, prompting several syndicate members to flee to Nepal. Based on intelligence that the group had brought the same technology into Nepal and continued operating from there, the CIB carried out raids under the operation.
Investigative findings obtained by Ukeraa show that Kumar Byanjankar was arrested from Kupandol on December 26, 2010, during the operation. The case reportedly involved 12 Nepalis, including internet service providers, who were accused of assisting the Bangladeshi network. Kumar Byanjankar was among those implicated.
At the time, Byanjankar was serving as the Managing Director of Cherry World Communication. Police had accused him of helping the Bangladeshi syndicate operate illegal VoIP call bypass services in Nepal. Local residents in his neighborhood were also reportedly aware of his arrest.
Police had also arrested Nilesh Ratna Sthapit and Rajaram Panthi in connection with the same case, alleging that they too had assisted the Bangladeshi group in running the illegal operation.
