One year in business 🎂

This month marks one year since I launched Gumbitz!!

Over the past year, more than 8,000 Gumbitz have made their way onto gumboots, lunchboxes, drink bottles, bikes, helmets and school bags across New Zealand.

We’ve created custom designs for some awesome Kiwi organisations and helped raise money for charities including Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue and the Royal New Zealand RSA, with another exciting collaboration involving an iconic yellow vehicle coming soon 👀

There have been plenty of late nights, last-minute packing sessions with my husband, and asking my kids to pose for “just one more photo.”

I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has ordered and supported this little business of ours. It has helped our family more than you know.

To celebrate our first birthday, we’re running our biggest sale yet, with up to 50% off selected Gumbitz throughout July.

Funny how life works.

12 years ago, I received a “Change in Career” scholarship from to study viticulture & oenology.

I didn’t end up in the wine industry forever. But I did end up in agriculture.

Now here I am 12 years later, raising kids in gumboots, making olive oil, building Gumbitz, and launching a collaboration with the place that changed my life feels incredibly full circle 🩵

The Rambo Gumbitz launches at Lincoln Uni this Friday.

All our ANZAC Poppy Gumbitz have officially found their forever homes 😍😍

Thank you again so much for your support. I can’t believe it only took 3 weeks to sell all 500. We’ll be transferring our donation to the Royal New Zealand RSA 🥹

Why the ANZAC Poppy?

When we started Gumbitz, Tim (my husband) and I always knew we wanted to work with charities, schools and communities to fundraise and give back.

Like many of you, we have family who have served. Tim’s dad (pictured) saw his father go to war and the impact that it had on him. In my family I’ve had a cousin serve in Afghanistan and another in East Timor.

That’s what led us to approach the RSA about doing a fundraiser on their behalf. The RSA supports veterans and their families through aid with health, financial, and transition needs, and have been doing so in NZ since 1916.

We wanted to create something that not only helps fundraise, but also sparks conversations with the next generation. That’s where the Gumbitz Poppy came from ❤️

We took a special trip to the city today to check out the Air Force Museum. Ollie’s been asking a lot of questions about his Poppy and about what ANZAC means, so we took him there to help answer some of those questions. We were all blown away. The displays were incredible. Highly recommend if you haven’t been before ❤️

I know many of you are gearing up for Easter, but I wanted to share this early as it’s the biggest fundraiser we’ve ever done.

We’ve partnered with the Royal New Zealand RSA to create our very own Gumbitz poppy. A small but meaningful way to honour those who have served, and to help introduce our young ones to why ANZAC Day matters.

Over the next 4 weeks we’ll be fundraising hard for the Royal New Zealand RSA who are supporting veterans and their families across Aotearoa.

Our Easter sale is still on, and if you’re placing an order, you might like to add a poppy to your cart as well.

If you’ve been following Gumbitz for a while, you’ll know I’m always thinking of ways to make Gumbitz even more versatile, useful and long lasting. That’s exactly what motivated me to create a bag pin.

They use the same industrial strength 3M adhesive as our classic Gumbitz so they stay on firmly, while still letting you peel them off if you want to reuse your Gumbitz somewhere else later.

They give you a way to personalise your child’s bag and make them easier to spot. I love that I can match all my kids’ school things with the same Gumbitz so they can easily recognise what belongs to them.
