The journey of a thousand miles starts with one step... or maybe a leap? A leap of faith!
A journey I have been apprehensive to embark on, is now 'embarking?!'
and thus the leap of faith begins — enter LEVEKI.
After months of work behind the scenes, a whole lot of contemplating, a whole lot of procrastination and a whole lotta love (Led Zepp), I’m proud to finally move from point A to point A.1 with the first LEVEKI video, starring Forest Whittaker as Afele Paea, edited by Afele Paea & filmed in my humble Rent a cabin on my front lawn comes LEVEKI - Judgement Day (yes Terminator2 is my number1 flick!)
Seriously, thank you to the friends, whānau, colleagues and supporters who have followed the journey so far. Your encouragement has meant a lot.
So, what does LEVEKI mean?
In the Niuean language, Leveki speaks to guarding, caring for and protecting.
That meaning sits at the heart of what I want this business to represent.
It is about creating workplaces where people have the knowledge, confidence and support to do their mahi safely, to be engaged meaningfully and not a lazy attempt like "my husbands from Samoa, so Talofa."
True, uncomfortable, real and raw engagement!
LEVEKI is my contribution to a different conversation around Health, Safety & Wellbeing — one that recognises the importance of Māori and Pacific perspectives, culture, relationships and lived experience alongside good practice and sound systems.
From here, I’ll be sharing regular videos and practical conversations across LinkedIn and other social platforms.
The aim is simple:
Create a library of small helpful handy videos (for the Doom Scrollers!)
Make Health & Safety palatable for the younger generation, true from the heart story-telling.
