Your wage ratio is one of the simplest ways to understand the health of your salon.
Formula:
Total Wages (including KiwiSaver) ÷ Sales (excluding GST) × 100
Quick benchmark guide:
🟢 Under 40% = Looking good
🟡 40–50% = Healthy
🟠 50–60% = Time to pay attention
🔴 Over 60% = Warning sign
A high wage ratio doesn’t automatically mean you’re paying your team too much.
Often it’s a sign that prices, bookings, rebooking, or client frequency need attention.
Numbers don’t have to be scary. They’re simply clues that help you make better decisions. ✨
