We recently had a photoshoot for our Jibana collection with our lovely friend Kim. She's incredibly talented, and we were so thrilled with the beautiful results.

We also had a casket spray created by Event Flowers NZ and when we picked it up, we were so pleased about the care and attention to detail that went into it - it was everything we had hoped for and more.

It's always wonderful working with people who put so much heart into what they do. We couldn't have asked for more and are so grateful for the part they played in making the shoot such a success.

Having visited the production team in Bangladesh earlier this year, it's now deeply impacting to see the continued journey of what it means to be an accredited World Fair Trade Organisation.

Last month the team came together to celebrate International Women’s Day, recognising the incredible women whose dedication, talent and hard work helps drive the business forward every day.

The event was proudly organised, managed and led by female leaders across the team, creating an inspiring celebration of achievement, equality and opportunity.

The day included motivational speeches from senior leaders, personal success stories from the production floor, and reflections on the important role women play both in the workplace and at home. Recognition gifts were also presented to female employees as a token of appreciation for their valued contributions.

From all the way down here in New Zealand, we love seeing this and are so proud to be the NZ distributor of Jibana products that really do impact lives and transform communities through economic empowerment. A few pics below.

I just returned from an unforgettable trip to Bangladesh, where I had the privilege of witnessing the craftsmanship behind Jibana caskets. The experience was all the more meaningful because of the incredible people I met along the way.

What truly stood out to me was the commitment to great working conditions and the dedication to fair trade principles that the artisans uphold. Their hard work and passion for their craft not only reflect their skills but also their deep respect for ethical practices.

I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with such talented individuals and to learn more about the beautiful traditions surrounding these caskets 🌟

More pics to come, because there's more stories to tell.

The vision behind Jibana was to not only provide beautiful eco-friendly caskets and urns to the NZ market, but to also make a meaningful contribution to the lives of our artisans [and their families] who make our products in a challenging area of rural Bangladesh.

Today our founder, Jo Harris, arrived in bustling Dhaka on her way to the village in north west Bangladesh to meet the crew and build the personal connection. More 📸 to come ...

In a world that increasingly values ethical supply chains, fair&good is Aotearoa's leading ethical directory. From home goods and clothing to skincare and food, fair&good brands can cross off your entire shopping list, and you can feel good knowing that what you buy is truly changing lives.

And who is the first casket and urn supplier to meet the fair&good values and criteria? It's a rhetorical question - Jibana of course! Check out our presence as part of this growing community (& check out the other incredible brands on the fair&good website):

Jibana is a social-impact business that supplies eco-friendly caskets and urns made from hand-woven willow, bamboo, seagrass, and jute. Our products are made by skilled artisans in the Nilphamari area of Bangladesh.

We’re thrilled to share this glowing feedback about our Jute Caskets from a funeral director:

"I decided to take the advice and buy three Jute self-assembly caskets. These are a great alternative to cardboard coffins. They come conveniently packed in a thin casket-shaped cardboard box and are very easy to put together - 5 minutes or less. I will be ordering these as a carbon-friendly option and for families that want a cheaper eco-friendly option. Highly recommended."

Reviews do all the talking, but of course we already knew that, which is why Jibana brought these caskets to the NZ market. Available through our wonderful distributor, Western Caskets.

We love seeing pictures of the skilled artisans who produce Jibana products in action. Each one of our scatter tubes are produced individually by hand, with all the love and attention they deserve.

These pictures are the reason we're in business - to support the local community of Nilphamari District in the Rangpur Division of Bangladesh where our products are produced; the circular economy in action.

Your support makes this all possible, so on behalf of the artisans, and us, thanks!

Our jute caskets are proving very popular as an economical and 100% eco-friendly option.

The jute used is a fast-growing, sustainable plant grown in the fertile soils of Bangladesh. Hand-cut by skilled farmers, jute is known as the “golden fibre.” We honour this natural process by creating hand-woven caskets and coffins that support local communities and the planet.

One crematorium mentioned that these coffins are the best they've had for cremation, and noted that the cremated remains were the cleanest they have seen in a long time. "We're very pleased with the quality and performance of these coffins."

Available for immediate delivery through Western Caskets.

Jibana's supplier began life in 2006 with a simple idea - it must be possible to develop great products using natural materials abundantly available in rural Bangladesh; to source these materials sustainably, create quality jobs for local people, and see their lives and the environment impacted for good.

Jibana has brought this incredible range of coffins, urns and scatter tubes to NZ; these products are not only great for the environment, but they provide economic solutions to a marginalised community. Win-win-wins all over the place!

JC Atkinson distribute these products in the UK, and shared the little video below with a song the team in Bangladesh put together.

Big ups to Western Caskets in NZ who have come onboard as a distributor for Jibana - two family-owned businesses working together is a sweet space to be in.
