A smart little update for our Enphase IQ Battery 5P clients.

Enphase Energy has launched PowerMatch technology for IQ Battery 5P systems, a software-based feature designed to help the battery use its stored energy more efficiently.

The IQ Battery 5P has multiple microinverters inside the battery. Instead of switching all of them on for a small household load, PowerMatch allows the battery to activate only what is needed at the time.

So when your home is only using a small amount of power overnight, think fridge, Wi-Fi, standby loads and the usual background bits and pieces the battery can match the output more closely to the actual load.

Less unnecessary conversion. Better use of stored energy. Smarter battery behaviour.

You may notice your Enphase app showing something like “active 4/12 microinverters”. That is not a fault, it means the system has 12 battery microinverters available and only 4 are needed at that moment.

Tiny detail, big picture thinking. This is exactly why we back Enphase: the system keeps improving after installation.

After yesterday’s post, this felt like the right follow up.

We can say all day long that we care about the process, the workmanship, the products and the aftercare but it means a whole lot more when it comes from the people who have actually been through it with us.

We’re not trying to be the biggest solar company in the room.

We’re trying to be the one our clients are still glad they chose years down the track.

A massive thank you to the people who take the time to leave us reviews like this. It means a lot to our little team, and it’s also what helps other locals make a confident decision when they’re looking at solar.

We’re currently booked for installs until August, and while we’re incredibly grateful for that, it also means we need to be more intentional than ever about the projects we take on.
Over the last 8 years, we’ve learnt that the best projects come from three things:

Clarity. Collaboration. Shared standards.

Solar is a long-term investment, not a quick purchase off the shelf. The right result needs good design, safe installation, quality components, proper compliance, and a team that is still there after the panels are on the roof.

If your main goal is simply the cheapest price, we’re probably not the right fit. And that’s actually okay.

Our values are built around delivering the job properly, protecting your investment, and standing behind the system we install. Cutting corners to win work doesn’t align with that and frankly, it’s not how we sleep at night.

Saying no to the wrong fit allows us to fully show up for the right ones.

It protects our process. | It protects our team.
And most importantly, it protects our clients’ investment.

When you choose Goodyer Solar, you’re not just buying panels.

You’re choosing a local team, a proper process, premium products, and a standard of workmanship we’re proud to put our name on.

Battery storage is becoming the new normal in solar.

Across NZ, most home battery systems are sitting around the 10–15kWh mark.

Locally our average battery installs are generally between 9kWh and 18kWh, like this 18kWh Sigenergy system we’ve just installed.

Battery sizing isn’t one-size-fits-all. It depends on your evening usage, EV plans, hot water, backup needs, and whether you want to take advantage of time-of-use power plans.

The right battery should fit your home, your usage, and your future plans, not just the quote.

We’ve been asked a lot lately if we offer discounts or to sharpen up the price.

The honest answer is no, and we think it’s important to explain why.

In solar, a cheaper price usually comes from somewhere. It is rarely just “the same system for less.”

The shortcuts are often hidden in areas homeowners do not see until much later.

System design:
A cheaper quote may use a basic design that looks fine on paper but does not properly account for shading, roof orientation, future batteries, export limits, phase balancing, hot water loads or real household usage. A system that is poorly designed can underperform for years.

Product selection:
Not all panels, inverters, batteries and mounting systems are equal. Cheaper products may have shorter warranties, weaker manufacturer support, lower efficiency, limited monitoring, poorer coastal suitability or less flexibility for future upgrades.

Electrical compliance:
Solar is not just a roof job. It is electrical work connected directly into your home. Proper cable sizing, protection, isolation, switchboard checks, earthing, labelling, testing and documentation all take time. When a price is cut hard, compliance is often where corners quietly get shaved.

Installation workmanship:
The parts you do not see matter just as much as the panels you do. Roof penetrations, cable runs, isolator locations, conduit work, fixings and weatherproofing all affect how the system performs and lasts. A tidy install is not just about looks; it is about safety and longevity.

Monitoring and commissioning:
A solar system should be properly set up, tested, commissioned and monitored. This is how faults are detected, warranties are supported, and performance can be verified. Without proper monitoring, you may not know there is an issue until your power bill tells you.

Aftercare:
This is one of the biggest shortcuts. Some quotes are priced as if the job ends the moment the last panel goes on the roof. But solar should be supported after installation with handover, app setup, warranty support, maintenance advice, cleaning, servicing and real help when something is not right.

We do not discount or price match because we do not build our pricing around shortcuts. We price the job to include the design, products, workmanship, compliance and support needed to do it properly.

There will always be cheaper solar.
But cheaper does not always mean better value.

For the past 7–8 years, Goodyer Electrical & Solar has been proudly 100% Enphase. We know the product, we trust the product, and we still believe Enphase is one of the best solar technologies available in the world.

But being loyal to quality doesn’t mean standing still.

In April, we travelled to Shanghai to visit the Sigenergy factory and see the technology, testing, infrastructure and future roadmap for ourselves. Not from a brochure. Not from a sales rep. Not from “old mate reckons.”

With our own eyes.

And after seeing what Sigenergy is building, we made the decision to offer it as part of our premium solar and battery lineup.

This recent install is a great example of why.

Sigenergy gives homeowners a smart, modular, all-in-one energy system with battery storage, backup capability, EV charging options and intelligent energy management all designed to work together beautifully.

It doesn’t replace Enphase in our world. It simply gives us a high-quality pocket friendly option for clients where the system design, budget, storage goals or future energy plans make Sigenergy the right fit.
Because our job isn’t to protect one product category.
Our job is to protect our clients’ investment.

So yes, we’ve added Sigenergy.
Yes, we still love Enphase.

And yes, we’ll keep doing the homework before we put our name behind anything.

Solar done once. Solar done right.
Even if it ruffles a few feathers along the way. ⚡

IN SEARCH OF OUR NEXT ELECTRICAL APPRENTICE ⚡️

Some days are physically demanding. Solar installation is not a sit-in-the-van type of trade. You’ll be lifting panels, working outdoors, climbing roofs and working in all sorts of conditions. If you’re someone who enjoys physical work and being active, you’ll love it here.

We’re looking for someone who:

- Is physically fit and capable of demanding hands-on work

- Isn’t afraid of heights, ladders, roofs, crawl spaces or hard graft

- Has a strong work ethic and good attitude

- Wants a long-term career, not “just a job”

- Can take direction, think ahead and work as part of a team

- Takes pride in workmanship and presentation
Shows up on time and ready to work
