Upstairs living at Whareora Terrace brings together light, views and comfort. A bright, open kitchen is paired with a more sheltered lounge area, creating spaces that support both everyday use and relaxed entertaining while remaining thermally comfortable throughout the year.

We're proud to share snapshot of our Passive House work to date. We have designed 6 x fully certified Passive House projects:

• 1 x Passivhaus Classic
• 2 x Passivhaus Plus
• 3 x Passivhaus Premium

These are all built projects and the benefits are being enjoyed by their owners. Several more projects are currently in design and construction. Each one continues to build our expertise of what high-performance housing can deliver in a New Zealand context.

At Whareora Terrace, architecture and landscape were developed together.

The building is positioned to create functional spaces on the hillside property. The site has dual access from above and below, which nicely separates the vehicle access to the garage away from the front facade. The previous home created an ideal terrace, while planting helps anchor the house into its environment and soften its presence from a distance.

This year, Meta has had building consent issued for 46 medium-density homes across seven locations in Christchurch and Tauranga.

The projects span a range of development types , from small, boutique developments through to larger-scale residential projects, each responding to its site, context and intended occupants.

Across all of them, the focus remains the same: delivering well-considered housing that prioritises comfort, durability and long-term performance, whether at a single-home scale or across multiple dwellings.

Perching, gathering and pausing are carefully considered at Whareora Terrace. Seating spaces respond to views, sunlight and shelter, creating places that feel comfortable, informal and well-used throughout the day.

It’s handover time at Redmund Spur! This Westmorland hillside home was designed for a relaxed, social retirement, with sweeping views and the comfort of Passive House performance. We’re so pleased to see it complete and ready to be lived in.

As the year closes out, we’re taking a moment to enjoy ourselves after a rewarding 2025 with the Meta team and our friends.

Thank you to our clients, consultants, and builders for the care you bring to every project. Wishing you all a restful summer break! We're quietly excited about the diverse projects that we’ll be working on together throughout 2026.

We have some highlights from the year and a fresh set of photographs from a recently completed project to share with you over the coming weeks. Happy holidays!

Exciting day on site - the windows have arrived from Poland and are going in. Once installed, the team can move straight into cladding and flashing.

We’ve also been doing some thermal modelling to see where the house sits compared to Passivhaus certification level, and the results look very positive. More on that soon!

It's all happening on site at Remuera Ave! The prefabricated wall panels were craned into place this morning. This afternoon the internal walls will go in, ready to support the roof trusses which will go on tomorrow morning, along with the gable end panels (and bracing - critical in this wind!). From there, the roof can get wrapped and clad and the building structure will be fully protected from the elements. The window openings will remain covered with building wrap until the windows arrive onsite in a few weeks, keeping the building weathertight.

Everything happens amazingly quickly, but prefab done well is not just about speed. It’s about controlling as many variables as possible to create the highest quality outcome, which is crucial in a high-performance build like this one.

Tomorrow! ⚡ Passive House Institute NZ – Canterbury Chapter event:
Electrifying Everything with Passive House

We’re looking forward to what’s sure to be a lively discussion about where we can get the most value when improving building efficiency and comfort. With a great mix of speakers offering different perspectives, it’s bound to spark some debate — fabric first, or fabric fifth?

Hope to see you there! The event is now sold out, but livestream tickets are still available for those who can’t make it in person.
