- Growth and Development

While babies sleep, their bodies work hard behind the scenes—producing essential growth hormones that support bone, muscle, and organ development. Adequate sleep also fuels brain growth, laying the foundation for learning, memory, and emotional regulation.

- Memory Consolidation

During those peaceful hours of sleep, babies’ brains are hard at work—sorting through the day’s experiences and storing important information. This process strengthens their ability to learn, retain, and recall new skills.

- Cellular Restoration

Just like adults, children bodies need time to repair and rejuvenate. Sleep enables their cells to regenerate, keeping them healthy, energetic and ready to conquer each day

- Immune support

While sleeping, their immune systems gear up, fighting off germs and viruses, helping to keep them strong and healthy.

- Emotional well-being

A good nights sleep works wonders for their emotional resilience. It helps them regulate their moods, cope with daily challenges, and promotes a positive mindset, ensuring they wake up feeling refreshed and ready for new adventures.

🌅Daylight Saving 🌅

On Sunday 29th of September, our clocks will move 1 hour forward.

I love those lighter and warmer evenings, but this also means our children might question us as to why they have to go to bed when it's still light outside- Try explaining that one.

This is when now is a good time to reach for those blackout blinds to assist our children in getting to sleep at a reasonable hour.

To make this transition slightly easier on your little one, we can start making changes to their feed, nap and bedtime in the week leading up to the clock change. To keep the disruption to a minimum, we suggest moving naps, meals and bedtime forward by 15 minutes every second day for 6 days prior to the clock change. See the slide above for how your week might look.

There's some good news for parents who have those early birds ... here's my advice you don't have to change a thing- YAY

📌Make sure you save this post and put a reminder on your phone.

What is Reverse Cycling? 🍼

Reverse cycling is a term that describes when your baby tends to consume most of their calories at night, which can lead to reduced interest in solids and milk during the day. While it's common for newborns to feed frequently overnight, this behaviour can continue as they grow older, affecting babies from around 4 months to even 3-4 years old who might still wake up for nighttime feeds.

Babies are amazing calorie regulators! They instinctively know how many calories they need in a 24-hour period. So, if they're getting too many calories at night and not enough during the day, they'll make up for those missing calories by waking up more often at night.

If you suspect your little one is experiencing reverse cycling, it might be worth considering reducing the number of nighttime feeds. If you're not sure how to go about it, feel free to book a call with us, and we can discuss your options to help both you and your baby get a good night's sleep!

✨ Star of the Week✨

This wee man was such a delight, he only needed our (mini) starter package as mum only required a little helping hand, getting his sleep back on track.

It worked wonders, and this little guy was back sleeping through the night within a few nights 🫶🏽

Do you find yourself getting up to feed your little one only to second guess if they are hungry, or are they waking out of habit?

Here are some of our tips to help you distinguish the two (please keep in mind your little one’s age and weight):

🍼Hunger
✔️Babies who arent established on solids and are under the age of 6 months
✔️If your baby takes a feed through the night and will still have a full feed at breakfast (6.30/7 am)
✔️They feed well during the day
✔️Settle well after feeding and will sleep for a decent amount of time afterwards (4 hours+)

🤔Habit
✔️Wake at the same time every night without fail
✔️Fuss at the breast or bottle
✔️Take regular and small feeds, sucking to soothe rather than feed.
✔️Won’t take a full feed at breakfast (7 am)
✔️Seems wakeful and struggles to settle back to sleep

Ger in touch today if you are finding it hard to navigate your little one’s sleep or need some extra guidance.

Every child is unique:

🗣️ While my friend’s baby slept through at 12 weeks, mine wakes every 2-4 hours.
🗣️ My firstborn never climbed out of their cot, but my youngest does it all the time.
🗣️ My 6-month-old seems uninterested in solids, while my friend’s baby is having two meals a day.
🗣️ That baby is rolling, while mine is sitting.

✋ Let’s take a moment to pause when we hear such statements. One fundamental belief we hold is that comparing your child to another is like comparing apples to oranges.
Each child possesses their own unique personality and temperament, influencing how they respond to the world. In sleep coaching, it’s crucial to remember that just because a certain approach worked wonders for someone else’s child doesn’t guarantee the same for yours. Choosing a settling technique involves finding a compromise between what you’re comfortable with and meeting your child’s needs.

Embrace the diversity in your child’s development journey, because just like adults, they have their own timeline and rhythm. Milestones are not a race. Remember, those sleepless nights or the unconventional milestones are not indicators of success or failure. They are simply part of your little one’s story.
