💨🧲Fasting has always been part of spiritual life, throughout pretty much all the various religions around the world. Jesus said that some BREAKTHROUGHS come only Through PRAYER and FASTING (Matthew 17:21). And Isaiah reminds us that when we fast with the right heart, “your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear” (Isaiah 58:8).

Spiritual or Biblical fasting is a practice of clearing space for God to work within us. 🙏 Scripture teaches that fasting is not for display but for inner alignment—quiet, sincere, and transformative. For those healing, fasting becomes less about deprivation and more about intention: letting go of what burdens us, making room for clarity, and inviting God’s presence to rekindle courage, love, and self‑discipline. 💯👍

✨ 40 Hour Famine — Do You Remember It? 🧑‍🌾

How about a mid‑month 40‑hour fast — it's EASY! Start the Fast on a Tuesday evening then enjoy a beautiful Healthy "Brunch on Thursday". . . .

BUT you know The Real Key times to "HEAL FAST" are actually:

"The 40 Hour Famine" reminded me of something many of us grew up with: Set up Back in 1975, World Vision launched it as a way for young Kiwis to sacrifice something meaningful for 40 hours to help children in poverty.

Some gave up food, others gave up talking, technology, or even lived out of a backpack. More than 3 million New Zealanders have taken part over the years, raising over $80 million to transform lives. As kids, many of us “survived” on barley sugars and water… and let’s be honest, those barley sugars felt like gold at the time.

But now, looking back as an adult who understands what sugar actually does to the body, I can’t help but laugh — and cringe.

Barley sugar? During the Fast? OUCH!. . . . Sugar and processed carbs overload the body, spike insulin, and contribute to so many modern health issues. One of the reasons fasting is so powerful is because it GIVES THE BODY A BREAK from that constant glucose rollercoaster. 🤸‍♀️

Yeah, When we stop eating for long enough, the body naturally shifts into processes like Ketosis and Autophagy, which is known as the Cellular CLEANUP, metabolic RESET, and improved CLARITY. 💡👀

Eating anything when you are trying to Heal Fast — especially sugar — interrupts that. But the heart behind the 40 Hour Challenge wasn’t just about food; it was about discipline, sacrifice, and choosing to give something up for a greater purpose. That part still matters today.

🎚️ Easter, Good Friday & the Heart of Biblical Fasting 📜

Good Friday invites us into a moment of shared stillness. As we remember Jesus’ suffering and sacrificial love, we acknowledge the weight of our own wounds—physical, emotional, or spiritual. In the Heal Fast Support Group, this day becomes a space to honor the hard parts of our journey, recognizing that healing often begins in honesty, humility, and quiet reflection.

Easter Sunday lifts us into renewal. The resurrection proclaims that no darkness is final and no setback is beyond God’s restoring power. For our group, Easter mirrors the courage to rise again—step by step, breath by breath—trusting that new strength, new hope, and new beginnings are possible even after seasons of deep struggle. 🙋‍♂️

March UPDATE: March was a solid reset. I started my 3-day fast a few days later than usual — kicking off on the 5th — but once I got into it, everything flowed. I like to structure my fasts over 3 days, and this one felt strong and controlled. One of the highlights was getting to the hot pools — spending time in the sauna and then pushing into the cold plunge (around 2 degrees). I did multiple plunges, including a couple at 2 minutes and even one at 4 minutes. These temperature shifts are powerful… they help reduce aches and pains, and work alongside fasting to support the body’s natural healing and autophagy process.

The best part? Everything feels amplified during a fast — your senses, your awareness, your connection to what your body is doing. To finish it off, the next day, I had a deep tissue sports massage, which was intense but incredibly rewarding. It felt like a full-body reset — physically and mentally. This is why I keep coming back to fasting… it’s not just about food, it’s about giving your body the space to heal, reset, and come back stronger.💯👍

At its core, fasting is about giving your body a break. The most powerful form is removing all food and calorie-based drinks, and sticking to water or herbal teas. This allows your body to switch into fat-burning mode (ketosis) and trigger autophagy — a natural process where your body clears out damaged cells and uses them for energy. 🏋️‍♂️ The truth is… our bodies were designed for this. Our ancestors didn’t eat all day or follow 3 meals like we do now — they had to hunt, gather, and go without food, which forced the body to adapt, become stronger, and more efficient.

But here’s the best part… fasting doesn’t have to be extreme to get started. You can begin by cutting out things like coffee, sugar, or junk food for a few days. 🍪🍿☕️ It’s about building discipline, breaking habits, and taking back control — one small step at a time. The deeper fasts bring the strongest results, but every step counts. And when you do it with support, it becomes easier, more consistent, and far more powerful. Small wins, done daily, can completely change your life. 💯👍

😁 February was a different story. After what happened in January, I’ll be honest… I felt hesitant getting started again. I delayed it by about a week, but I didn’t quit. I prepared properly, easing in with clean food — my coleslaw — and when I pushed through that first 24 hours, I felt it again… the power of fasting. My sleep became deeper and more refreshing, the aches in my joints disappeared, and my body started to feel like it was healing again. Even my mind felt clearer — like the fog was lifting. 🌬️

The best part? On day 2, I took time out at the hot pools — sauna, cold plunge, then back into the heat. Just being still, reflecting, resetting. It wasn’t just physical… it was mental and spiritual too. The contrast of hot and cold, the solitude, the discipline — it all amplified the fasting experience. The truth is… this reminded me why I do this. Fasting isn’t just about stopping food. It’s about resetting your body, clearing your mind, and reconnecting with God. January LESSON LEARNED, Tough but TRANSFORMATIVE .

😬January was a tough but powerful lesson for me. I completed a full 72-hour fast — just water and herbal tea — after taking time to prepare my body by reducing caffeine and easing into it with shorter fasting windows. The fast itself went well. I felt the reset, the clarity, the cleansing. But where I went wrong… was how I ended it. I broke the fast with coffee, cake/muffins, and nuts, while also going through a stressful emotional time. That combination — sugar, caffeine, and stress — hit my body hard and triggered 3 seizures. It took most of January to recover. 🥵

The truth is… fasting works. My body responds well to it. But how you come out of a fast is just as important as the fast itself. Your body has been in a deep rest and reset state — and jumping straight into heavy, hard-to-digest foods or stimulants can shock the system. What I’ve learned is this: break your fast gently — fruit, vegetables, eggs, maybe fish — and give your body time to wake back up. I haven’t given up. Not even close. February was another step forward… and I’ll share that next. This is a journey of learning, discipline, and healing. 💪💯👍

Only 3 sleeps until the 3-Day Food-Free Fast begins! Now’s the time to prepare mentally and physically. For the next couple of days, I’m slowing down and removing all sugary, carb-heavy foods — no bread, cereal, muffins, or cakes. Instead, I’ve stocked up on celery and roasted kumara as clean snack options. These choices help stabilize blood sugar and ease the body into ketosis. It’s not just about what you eat — it’s about how you transition. Preparation is key.

I’m also resetting my eating window to just 4 hours a day, practicing intermittent fasting with 20-hour gaps between meals. This helps my body adapt, reduces cravings, and builds the discipline needed for the full fast. Holding that clock in my hand reminds me: time is a tool, not a trap. When we steward it wisely, we unlock healing. Fasting isn’t just abstaining — it’s aligning. Let’s get ready to cleanse, reset, and rise.

🕊️ The Day After — Easing Out of the Fast

After completing the 3 day Heal Fast, today was all about easing back into eating with intention. Because We've Now avoided sugar and carbs for three days, it’s important to stay clean and support the body’s continued healing — especially while it’s still riding the wave of Autophagy and elevated human growth hormone. It's a great idea to ease out the same way we prepared for the fast, so a bit of intermittent fasting, Keeping to the 4-hour eating window, avoiding carbs and sugar. So you know what I did? I treated myself to a beautiful piece of cooked salmon and a fresh batch of my signature coleslaw mix. Plus I usually hit the hot pools on Day 3, but this time it ended up being the day after: sauna, cold plunge, and deep relaxation. It felt like a such a reward for the discipline, and your body loves it.

Remember The coleslaw mix? I like it because it's free from sugars and carbs and not processed food — Made with onion, celery, capsicum, carrot, and red cabbage — is my go-to base. No mayo, no dressings, just clean, versatile fuel. I tossed a few handfuls into the pan while cooking the salmon, letting it soak up those rich oils. Topped with avocado, cheese, and tomato, it became a keto-friendly masterpiece. This kind of refeeding honors the fast, keeps the body in ketosis, and gently wakes up the digestive system. It’s not just about what you eat — it’s about how you transition. The fast may be finished, but the healing continues. 💯👍
