We love all journalists at Mabel Maguire and the work they do, but there's a special place in our heart for a few: dreamboat renegade Paddy Gower Has Issues, winningly enthusiastic Wallace Chapman, and investigative powerhouse Paula Penfold, who wrote this this week about the coronation of the new Māori kuini:
"And for me, as a Pākehā, the only question was how anyone could have a problem with this and what it represents... Why would you feel threatened? ... Why would you feel it imposed on you, or pretend there’s less value in learning this language than another, that the plasticity of growing brains is somehow compromised by just this reo, but not others from half a world away? How could you feel anything but an adjacent pride?" We couldn't have said it better ourselves... and we're professional communicators (who love our te reo lessons)!
