Thank you, Air Rescue Services! With your support, in the last three months our programme was able to keep matches going, recruit new volunteers, meet new taiohi and offer new experiences to the tamariki on or programme. Your support makes a huge difference in our community. 💜💜💜

🥰 It is so heartwarming when members of our community think of creative ways to support our programme, and the result is a smile on the faces of our tamariki: hairdressing superhero Fiona from Glow in Hokitika reached out to us, wishing to offer free haircuts to the children on our programme. How amazingly generous is that! 🙏 A huge thank you, Fiona. See below the happy faces of two mentees who have made use of this cool opportunity during one of their outings with their mentors. 🥰

What's better than spending a day in the West Coast sun? Spending it with a former mentor and mentee!! 🥰 Nothing tells the story of Big Brothers Big Sisters better than the matches themselves. Anna-Marie and Teri were matched when Teri was 8 years old. For the next few years, spending time with Anna-Marie and her family became a stable feature of Teri's life. Now she's running her own business with 11 staff! 🤩 Thank you both so much for sharing your story.

A group of BBBS of the West Coast matches had a great time this weekend at the Treetop Walk, Hokitika! We were generously donated a voucher by Werner, a driftwood and sands prizewinner, who wanted the voucher to go to some young people who had never been on the treetop walk before. Thank you, Werner! 💞 And because there were other mentees too who hadn't experienced this super cool asset to our region, the folks from the treetop walk kindly made it possible for them to come, too.

Happy New Year!

Another reason why this is a very happy start: New Year, New Name! Our branch is officially changing to 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗦𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁 — 𝗧𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝗶 𝗼 𝗣𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗶.
While we have been operating in Māwhera for a while, our branch name didn't truly reflect this. We're excited about our new name and excited for 2026! 🥰🥳

Before we sign off for the Christmas holidays, we are celebrating our first Greymouth match anniversary since re-booting BBBS in Māwhera. Congratulations Det and Ellie, one year is an awesome milestone!
