We are proud to be apart of restoring another important local resource for our community
🦸 Not all heroes wear capes... some pump stormwater!
The pump station beside Pūrimu Stream near the Ahuriri Estuary has been doing exactly that since the 1970s. You might have spotted it from SH2 or while riding the Hawke's Bay Trails. When heavy rain hits, it pumps stormwater out to the Ahuriri Estuary, preventing it from backing up into nearby land, streets and properties.
After 50 years of service, it's time for an upgrade.
Starting next week, we're replacing the aged concave, leak-prone roof with a flat-profile design that drains properly and is easier and cheaper to maintain, keeping the station running reliably for decades to come.
What can you expect?
📅 Scaffolding is up ready for work to start mid-May, going through until end of June.
🚲 Some activity visible from SH2 and the Hawke's Bay Trails, with all machinery and site safely fenced off.
🏗️ Specialist crew will remove the old roof in preparation for the new durable, low-maintenance roof.
✅ The pump station will stay operational throughout the upgrade, including during severe weather.
