We are now bringing another incredible product to New Zealand. The best sawmills in the world, from Kara Sawmills in Finland. These sawmills are the perfect balance between capital cost and cost of production. The production and accuracy of these sawmills is on another level. Their performance enables them to be used as a genuine business, either stand alone or in conjunction with a firewood processing business.
A firewood business complements a Kara sawmill beautifully. We often see firewood businesses set up with an appropriate yard, log loader, delivery trucks and office support that can accommodate a sawmill. The sawmill can even out the seasonal fluctuations of firewood workload and income through the year. Firewood yards without a sawmill have no choice but to split logs that are too good for firewood. This is costly. Everyone has different costs and sale prices but for us the logs we saw into timber usually return 4 times the income of the firewood logs.
The Kara Sawmills have a maximum log diameter of 800mm and are still productive enough on logs so small you only get 1 piece of 100x100mm from them.
On average logs, production of 5-8m3 of sawn timber an hour is normal making them extremely fast and cost effective. 4.5mm is the normal kerf size. They are made in Finland by a family owned company of with a long history in making very good sawmills.
