Having been a business owner, I understand the difficulties involved in ‘filling the gap’. I would want to go on an overseas holiday for a month, even though I had capable staff to fill in most duties, there was always a few things I didn’t feel comfortable sharing – payroll, the last thing I needed was staff knowing each other’s pay rates and benefits – that just gave me another issue on my return. Deadlines – GST, PAYE, getting debtor invoices out on time for prompt payment, AP – keep the suppliers happy and paid but not doubling up or paying for things that had not been received. Ultimately, I needed to clone myself in my absence or dear I say it, take my laptop with me. But what happened when I had an accident? Laptop or not, I couldn’t function! The reality is that small to medium businesses run lean and so they should, our staff are almost always at capacity to make this happen, when one person steps away for a period it can be stressful and often will cause cracks somewhere else. Having left being a business owner and going back to being an employee did not solve the problem, now I was on the other side of the leave issues, I began holding resentment as when I did take leave, no one did my job while I was away, I was sacrificing my hard earned annual leave to come back and have to work 12-15hr days for the next few weeks to catch up all while being on salary and losing my annual leave accumulation.
So here I am to ‘fill the gap’ for those who have been where I have. I’m an experienced Business Owner of a Medium Business and am offering short term Management and Administration skills to cover Owners who want to take a break without the hassle of upskilling staff, cover key staff who are on annual leave or injured, or just filling the gap where it’s not justified employing another staff member. Be it Payroll, Accounts Payable, debtors, social media, GST, PAYE or managing staff with flexibility, confidentiality, and professionalism.
